Go to the Google search engine, type in "1996 Oldsmobile Serpintine Belt routing Diagram", and the first row of stuff that pops up has the pictures for all the different engines of that year. Just pick the one that has the same number and location of pulleys as your motor. MAny parts manufacturers also have online help. For example, if you're installing a goodyear belt, visit their website, which is probably listed on the cardboard sleeve the new belt came in.

you will need to set the timing up before you take the timing belt of. there will be marks on the pulleys where to line them up. you will need to buy a new timing belt as you can't put the same one on. it is a 13 or 14 ml nut in the middle of the pulley. take the old one off and put the new one on it's as simple as that make sure the timing is set up before you put the new belt one. once belt is on take the spark plugs out and turn bottom or top pulley with a spanner so the engine will turn all the way round freely. sorry better disconnect battery before you do anything and make sure it's not in gear
