i'm familiar with the motors slighty, is the coils easy to get to to swap around?? where exactly are they located?? on the side by the rocker cover? any special tools needed?

  • garyandcarla Feb 06, 2009

cool, now they are the little units that have 2 fixings on the side, and are suitated next to the intake pipes on the top of the motor?? and have an electrical unit that clips in?? is there any order to place them in? or are they interchangable with each other??

  • garyandcarla Feb 06, 2009

thanks, i'l give that a go, and will see what happens. Thanks for your advice.

Those are exactly them. And no just switch them around and see what is going on. Only switch two at a time so if you remove the first and the last one then go from there

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Yes there are easy to swap around. They are on the side of the rocker cover I would swap them that will tell you what is going on. Tell you if you need to replace them or not

Swap the coils around and see if the car starts.

SOURCE: 1989 subaru legacy 2wD 2.0 vz

Welllllllllll how do I say this without incriminating myself too much, after furiously mad panic stations on the sunday, it was decided that first thing monday it would be towed to the electricians! as my husband had concluded it was electrical this came after new battery fuses etc.. had been checked and many an hour spent under the bonnet. As we have a kill switch, which I had tried an still did not go also I reminded my husband of this and he screamed at me its not the bloody kill switch @#!*!!? ok, have a GREAT DAY! So come monday morning after getting up early to drop my husband off at work dressed only in my dressing gown jammies and socks and slippers I duly dropped him off and used our pajero for the day which I ended up having to put 10 dollars in. That night he returned home with the subaru and a receipt for work done I ( I had visions of hundreds of dollars worth) but noooooo $54.00 great ah! Cos it was the kill switch !!!!.
We will never speak of this again!!!!! It is often the simple things in life that we overlook? TeeHeeee.

SOURCE: 86 subaru gl wagon not firing.

I have the same problem with my 86 GL 4WD. One day it started to turn, and then lost all power. I couldn't even turn on the lights. I have played with the ignition switch wires, and gotten it to fire. I think there may be a short somewhere in the switch or the wires to the harness, but I have not isolated it yet. You might check your ignition switch and wiring...

SOURCE: loss of boost and engine check light on

Please have the computer scanned for codes. Autozone or Pepboys will do it task for free. It sounds like it could be related to your fuel sustem or exhaust. But I need more info to be more spesific. Good luck.

How do i locate the knock sensor in a 1996 subaru gtb wagon engine

It is underneath the intake manifold. If you look straight down from the throttle body, you will see a sensor with one wire coming out and a bolt going through the middle of it, that is the knock sensor.

1997 subaru gtb wagon, i need to convert japanese into english on my interior fuse cover to see what fuses are what

English language manual for my 1998 Legacy wagon carries the heading "Fuses and circuits" on pp.11-6 to 11-9. With three subheadings as follows:
*Fuse panel located under the dashboard
*Fuse panel behind the instrument panel lower cover
*Fuse panel located in engine compartment

Each includes fuse panel number, fuse rating, and circuit.

I suggest you obtain a manual for your model.
Or, If I have a clear photo or copy of the Japanese language specs I can translate into English.
Or, I can provide the four pages from my English manual if you figure the fuse specs are the same for your model.

Ignition switch?

Nope, it's the starter or more specifically, the copper contacts under the removable 3-screw plate. Make sure that your battery connections are clean and tight - I've been bitten by that one too many times.
