Starting problem! '99 grand cherokee

Wife stopped at friends house, turned key off. A few minutes later turned key on and gages went crazy swinging back and forth. No starter no door chime, just like a dead batt but gages banging back and forth. Take key out and gages keep going. I arrive about 30 mins later and gages stopped but ticking behind dash, key still out. Put key in and gages take off again, still no starter or door chime. For some reason I step on brake pedal and everything gos back to normal. This has got me.
Thanks for any info.

not dead positive on this but I would check grounding and also security module.Personally, I really wish someone would get rid of 90% of this electronic junk and go back to what actually works!!! (and they wonder why no one wants to buy cars!!!

I have a 99 jeep grand cherokee 4.7, the alarm went crazy and the wont start. guages dont budge and horn keeps honking and lights flashing. sentry key light is on in guage cluster any help

Sounds like you need to perform a relearn on the anti theft system, it's not recognizing the key if this happens with the key inserted. Might want to look online for a reset procedure for Jeep. GM has you keeping the key in the ignition in the on position for 10 minutes.

What is wrong is one of the computers that tell the engine what to do is bad. I would say that it is the ECM, or the BCM. With the gauges going hay wire I would say the BCM or body control module. But if the ECM or Engine Control Module is sending the wrong signal to the BCM it could be the ECM. It is going to be one of the two.

My dash board of my grand cherokee laredo 2003 went crazy. guages started to move after i have had pull out the keys.. then i drove and stop and turn off the engine and shot down completelly... what can i...

I have had this problem a few times on my 2003 Grand Cherokee. After the guages go crazy then the thing will not start. First two times I replaced the battery and it fixed the problem for a short time. The real problem was corrosion on the battery cable(positive/red cable) I took some Coke and a wire brush and cleaned the cable, ends and battery terminal. This fixed the issue.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Alternator issues?

have the alternator regulator and diodes tested. sometimes when the regulators fail they allow ac voltage to go to the battery. ac voltage doesn't charge the battery properly (causes it to deep cycle and shortens its life) and causes all sorts of funny problems with the car. also make sure the battery is secured properly, vibration isn't good for them at all.

02 Grand Am SE - Won't start

One of the easier ways to check a fuel pump is to turn the key to the on position and listen by the gas tank. You should hear the fuel pump turn on and then turn off after a couple of seconds when it reaches the proper PSI. If that seems to be working fine, there are a few different things it could be.
