Peugeot 406. What is the importance of switch that connects positive and negative under key light on the 406 dashboard please?

It is likely that the switch you are referring to is the ignition switch, which is responsible for turning the electrical system on and off when the key is inserted and turned. The ignition switch is an important component of the Peugeot 406's electrical system, as it allows the vehicle to start and provides power to the electrical components when the engine is running.
If the ignition switch is not functioning properly, it can cause a variety of issues with the vehicle's electrical system, including problems with starting the engine, powering the dashboard lights and other electrical components, and controlling the fuel pump. It is important to have a functioning ignition switch in order to operate the vehicle safely and reliably.
If you are experiencing issues with the ignition switch or other components of the electrical system in your Peugeot 406, it is recommended to have the vehicle inspected and diagnosed by a professional mechanic. They will be able to identify any problems and determine the necessary repairs.

Where is the engine number not code on a peugeot 406 2.0 hdi 2003

it will be stamped on a flat surface of the engine , different makers use different positions, it will be below the head as its the engine block that is numbered just have to clean it off and have a good look around , usually on one of the sides , good searching, or contact Peugeot with the rest of the vehicle details

Peugeot 406 problems

I hate to rain on your parade but welcome to the world of French car electrics. You could try an owners forum or a non franchised specialist may help. This is why people in the know only buy new and sell on after 3 years. Renault, Peugeot, Citroen all suffer from nightmare electrical faults. My only suggestion is to check as best as you can all harness connections for tight fit and any corrosion.

406 HDi electrical errors!?

If you have the check engine light on and the vehicle is drivable you can take it to Auto Zone. They'll scan it for free and let you know what they find. You can always purchase a code reader and find out yourself what triggered the check engine. My advice if you want to diagnose it yourself is to get a Haynes Repair Manual. I'm not familiar with your vehicle but if comes turbo from factory you will find some answers in the manual. Check any disconnected, pinched or misinstalled vacuum hoses. Sounds like a boost problem that could be triggering electric problems by sending the wrong information to sensors. If you can't find any thing wrong try restarting the computer. Disconnect the ground from the battery turn the lights on to drain the electricity faster wait five minutes then reconnect the battery. If they disconnected the battery your car might still be relearning, you'll have to keep driving it some more in order for the computer to set.
