Need to take clutchfan off to replace waterpump

It's a 2003 GMC Sierra.there are no bolts in front of the fan blade ,there are four small bolts in the back of the fan and there's also a large nut between the fan blade and the clutch.

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

hi , that LARGE nut is what needs to be unscrewed , it will require special tool , some parts stores will have a loan-a-tool program to borrow or rent this tool , and ask them how to use it , call some part stores , then the job will be easy .

Don't remove the fan , remove the fan mount. There are 3 bolts and 2 studs holding the mount to the block. Remove the oil filler tube and plug to stop foreign material from entering the block, cover the rad to protect it from the fan then when you remove the fan and mount it will come straight up passed where the filler tube was.

Changing a waterpump. how do you get the radiator fan blade off?

You need to "hold the fan" (with gloves on) while loosening the four bolts behind the fan blades...the blade and pulley will then pull off exposing the water pump bolts...:)

Water pump

I am guessing you have a 5.7 liter engine. remove your hoses belt, and upper fan shroud, fan and pulley. then there should be four bolts to take out for the pump to come off. clean gasket surface good and reinstall in reverse order with thread sealer on the four bolts and gasket sealer on the gasket.

2002 gmc sierra front diff. actuator motor. how do you remove it?

undo the wire first by sliding a thin blade screwdriver under the tab. lift slightly and pull the connector off. Use a pair of waterpump pliers or slip joint pliers and turn the body of the actuator out as if undoing a bolt(counterclockwise). It comes out real easy.

Replace starter on 1992 GMC Sierra pickup truck

First thing unhook positive battery cable, unhook main cable on starter selanoid and small wire on selanoid (there may be 2 small wires) There may be a bracket on front of starter that has to be removed, and then the 2 main bolts that hold it to engine block and it should come out.

Water pump instillation

Remove the Fan Shroud. You have to do this with Both the Old and New Waterpump out. The fan has 4 Nuts that hold it on to the Pulley. Remove these and Remove the Fan and the Pulley. You will need the Studs off of the Old Waterpump and they are Threaded into the Small Circle that is on the Front of the Waterpump Under the Pulley. There is no Easy way to get these off. It is Tough. Then when you are done Fighting with these, Install the Studs on the New Waterpump and Install the Pump. You can do this either with or Without the Fan already put back on. Changing a water pump on a 2005 GMC Pick-up

Open the hood of your truck. Look inside the engine bay. See the fan assembly and the pulley that the belt rides on. The water pump is behind the pulley. Changing water pumps can be somewhat of a task. Professional help will be needed for someone that can't find the waterpump.

The water pump is on the passenger side front of the engine; I had to drain the coolant, I kept the belt in place, then I removed the 3 bolts from the pulley to give me access to the bolts on the top (it will require a set of metric tools for it). Then I removed the passenger side front tire and the splash cover from under the car just above the tire, removed all bolts that holds the pump on the lower part of it, then removed the belt, scraped and clean very well the old gasket. The new water pump came with a new gasket, so I just got a gasket maker and applied to the gasket, so I did not have to do it again. Work backwords to reinstall everything, good time to replace the coolant and if you have not done yet, replace the thermostat valve along with any hose that may be cracked, rigid or enlarged (check the hoses to the heater core also). Please check your belts and hoses so you will not have to redo the process again.
