Jeep question Hi. You just wrote on my question. I had the question about the 1997 jeep wrangler 4.0 that is leaking oil. you said to use the blue atv silicone. My boyfriend used the black rtv high temp on the front and rear of the gasket and under it where it meets the oil pan. is he suppose to put it on the top and bottom of the gasket or the sides? thanks

Mate.If its a six cyl, motor the rear seal wasn't done right. Its a 2 part seal and you have to remove the sump to do it. The mechanic doesn't want to admit a stuffup. The most common cause is not the correct sealer when the new seal is installed. It has to be slid around and in with the bearing cap removed. This is on a 6 cyl.Hope this helps
So how do you know you need one if you dont know where it is?? Oil pumps rarely go bad unless the engine is sludged from lack of maintenence. After you take the oil pan off, its there hanging down. Make sure you clean or replace the pick up tube. I'm sure you can google up torque specs, for the bolts. Usually there is major engine damage by the time you figure out that there is lack of oil pressure. I would get a professionals opinion before you waste time and money replaicing the oil pump. If the engine has any unusual noise or knocking, its too late.
your fluid is anti-freeze/coolant leaking from the heater hoses or heater core inside the heater box.check level of coolant in overflow reservoir under hood.
The check gauges light is normal because at 400 rpm it isn't running fast enough to build sufficient oil pressure. I am guessing maybe a vaccum leak???
The gage is working because it is coming on sometimes. The oil pressure sending unit on the engine is starting to go. I would replace the oil pressure switch on the engine first.
You need to Put Blue ATV Silicone on Both sides of the Gasket to get it to Seal Properly. This is a High Temp Sealant and Once Set it will fix the Problem.
