We have a 1997 Saturn SL that is having some issues with cold starting and remaining running for the first 15-20 mins. We have to hold the gas pedal down some inorder to keep the motor running. after the first few mins we don't seem to be having any problems running. It will start just not run.

could be that the electronic throttle could be icing up. just remove the air cleaner and have someone cycle the key. the throttlebody will cycle prior to starting to do a self check. chrysler has a tsb out for this concern. tsb # 14-002-05
SOURCE: electrical. wont re-start unless cold.
You probably have some corrosion on your battery terminals. Make sure they are clean and connected good and tight.

First, if the SES light is on or comes on a little after it is running it has a code set in the computer. Itis easy to read the code on an OBD1 system by jumping the A-B terminals on the DLC Data Link, block under the drivers side see the following link for better explanination of reading the codes, http://www.troublecodes.net/GM/
Also review the following on the O2 Sensor and coolent temp sensor http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37884 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQ9vtD_ssjg, good luck you can fix this vehicle easily.

not really your head holds alot of pressure any temp. fix will just break
SOURCE: what are the symptoms of a faulty transmission? i
the biggest sign will be the transmission slipping. Others include rough shifting, excessive shavings in the transmission fluid pan, excessive leaks. If it is giving you problems you can change the fluid and filter, both require removing the pan and that will help.
