My jeep grand cherokee 2001 limited.
the promblem with transmission, the 2nd and 4th gear doesn't shift !
i change the speed sensor and the electronic board but nothing change!
please i need your help for this issue.
when i changed the electronic board in the same time with the solenoid in the transmission i got a little sucsess !
the 2nd gear works fine but the 4th one doesn't!
and the code P0720 sitll exist, waiting your reply.hi sir,
first thank u a lot for your prompt reply.

I will explain to u about code's like i do all the time, a trouble code does not mean the sensor or component is defective, it just means that there is a problem with the circuit, this includes the sensor, the connector to the sensor the wiring to the sensor and every connector in that harness right up to and including the computer control module that we call the PCM, the problem u have will now take the intervention of the dealer to figure what the problem is, you wasted time and money by guessing, let the pro's look at it, this of course is your decision, but guessing will get real expensive real fast, not to mention the frustration. Many folks say but the dealer is so expensive! and they are, but there is a reason, all the equipment they have to buy to properly diagnose the car and repair it costs a bloody small fortune, I know this because I have worked only in dealers my whole working career.I will explain to u about code's like i do all the time, a trouble code does not mean the sensor or component is defective, it just means that there is a problem with the circuit, this includes the sensor, the connector to the sensor the wiring to the sensor and every connector in that harness right up to and including the computer control module that we call the PCM, the problem u have will now take the intervention of the dealer to figure what the problem is, you wasted time and money by guessing, let the pro's look at it, this of course is your decision, but guessing will get real expensive real fast, not to mention the frustration. There are several things that could cause that. > Replacement transmission not equipped with overdrive > Overdrive solenoid in replacement transmission defective > Overdrive control circuits damaged or loose pins or connections. > Gear shift linkage or cable out of adjustment > Transmission range sensor malfunction or out of adjustment
Since you have a computer-controlled transmission, it would be better to ask the onboard computer that question....you will probably get a much more definitive answer.
Since alot of things rely on data from the speed sensor you will "usually" get an ABS alarm, little or no shifting,no indication of speed on the speedometer, and the check engine light. without the abs light and with a speed indicated I would lean toward a transmission problem
P0733=Gear 3 Incorrect Ratio P0734=Gear 4 Incorrect Ratio, your transmission is in "limp" mode, Have the following sensors checked on the transmission, input sensor, output sensor, and speed sensor. The transmission is not getting a signal from one of them,So it doesn't know how fast your going so it doesn't up shift.
P1529 indicates that your TCM asked the ECM to turn on the check engine lamp.
The range switch and the output speed sensors are the items that are
abnormally affecting the operation of the transmission. The diagnostic
logic in your computer can distinguish these issues from one another,
so you'll definitely want to do both. You have no diagnostic code for
the input speed sensor (P0715) listed, so I have made no recommendation
to replace it. In my opinion, it's not a labor-intensive repair, so I
wouldn't recommend replacing it unless you have reason to believe it's
bad.
DTC - P0720 (OUTPUT SHAFT SPEED SENSOR SYSTEM)
Code No. P0720 Output shaft speed sensor system
If the output from the output shaft speed sensor is continuously 50%
lower than the vehicle speed for 1 second or more while driving in 3rd
or 4th gear at a speed of 30 km/h or more, it is judged to be an open
circuit or short-circuit in the output shaft speed sensor and
diagnostic trouble code No. P0720 is output. If diagnostic trouble code
No. P0720 is output four times, the transmission is locked into 3rd
gear or 2rid gear as a fail-safe measure.
Probable cause
Malfunction of the output shaft speed sensor
Malfunction of the transfer drive gear or driven gear
Malfunction of connector
Malfunction of the TCM
DTC - P0715 (INPUT SHAFT SPEED SENSOR SYSTEM)
Code No. P0715 input shaft speed sensor system
If no output pulse is detected from the input shaft speed sensor for 1
second or more while driving in 3rd or 4th gear at a speed of 30 km/h
(19 mph) or more, it is judged to be an open circuit or short-circuit
in the input shaft speed sensor and diagnostic trouble code No. P0715
is output. If diagnostic trouble code P0715 is output four times, the
transaxle is locked into 3rd gear or 2nd gear as a fail-safe measure.
Probable cause
Malfunction of the input shaft speed sensor
Malfunction of the underdrive clutch retainer
Malfunction of connector
Malfunction of the TCM
that depends on what is the cause of the problem in the box,,if you took the box sump down all you can realy do it change the oil filter or clean it, thats about all you could do yourself,,,there is nothing more than that,,, the 3rd and 4th gears are driven by cluches if there slipping its a rebuild sorry,,,bad news realy
Your going to have to get your car scaned for codes. Auto Zone can scan it for you for free and tell your what you'll need to fix it.
It sound's like your VSS Sensor (speed sensor) is not working and your ECM is not getting the signal from the transmission to know when to shift the gears.
Becareful not to burn out the transmission till you get it fixed. The sensor it self is not that expansive and to replace it is easy and takes about 30 min to do.
If you get a P0720 or a P0722 code, then it's your speed sensor. It's an esy fix and Auto Zone can give you instrction on how to change it.
Good luck, it takes about 30 min to change and hope this helps.
I had a shifting problem. The car would start in the wrong gear and shift at wrong times. I repaced the governor postion sensor and tranny fluid and the problem has been fixed for several years. Did you replace the tranny fluid?

i already change that sensor, but no thing change the code
P0720 still exist !

Have u tested the solenoid pack in the transmission
