98 Jeep Cherokee
Fog lights no longer work. Bulbs are fine. Green light on fog light switch no longer lights when switch is turned on. Have checks connectors 2 switch they seem fine. Can not tell if the relay/fuse is bad? How should i go about troubleshooting this.
It's definitely the switch...I bought two of 'em so far...known bug. I don't use the fog lights as much anymore , but the "Airtex" oem equivalent switch from Rockauto seems to be holding up well. If you dissamble your broke switch you'll probably see evidence that it is beginning to melt and theres alot, maybe too much, grease, which may or may not have been the cause of the bad, heating contacts inside switch.
If I remember right, even though the foglights have a relay there is still full amperage going through the switch or something....don't qoute me on that last statement.
It's not that the switches aren't good switches, it's that they get hotterr and hotter the longer the fog lights are on because of some weird wiring situation that runs the full amperage through the switch. I think the factory made a mistake and didn't realize it. probably still don't realize it , because i never saw a TSB on it. I wish somebody smarter than me would tell us how to rewire it more like a typical foglight setup. It could be as simple as switching two wires. I found a mistake in the factory service manual regarding pinouts on an extended idle switch i installed so that shows it's possibly simple like that.
I've settled on just replacing it every few years when it quits

Ac relay is the same as fog relay. Switch them, not going to be the problem. Relays rarely go bad. I tried 2 oem switches and still nothing. Mine worked then it wouldnt, then it did. I do get it!!
I had the same problem with my fog lights did not working in my 1998 jeep cherokee classic. I found that behind the fog light switch their is a white connector that connects to the wire harness. This connector was bad. I bypassed by using a male and female connection and they now work fine. If this does not fix it, there is also a relay switch behind the fog light switch that could also be bad. In my case it was only a bad white connector
I had the same problem. Check along the wires for breaks or cuts! Mine was installed too close to the engine and the wires were melted too the engine!
Replace the relay it's a fairly cheap part and likely the source of the problem.

I also had an identical problem in my 98 Cherokee Limited, the relay checked out, there is also power to the switch, but the switch does not light up, and of course no fog lights at all. The bulbs are also good, so for $35 shipped I ordered the "airtex" switch, hopefully that is the problem.
