I have the same problem, ALL forward gears apply and pull hard. When placed in reverse it feals like it is engaging but won't pull. Probable cause low fluid pressure. I found several resources that said to try Lucas trans fix or remove the reverse check ball from the valve body. As soon as I find out which check ball is the rev. I will try it and let you know. If you can help let me know.

I recently rebuilt a 4l60e and after extensive research and several conversations with highlyexperienced mechanics, the most common cause of no reverse is the sun shell suffers damage inside the the transmission. This a total rebuild job. I think you may see other effects on the forward gears , even if slightly. My trans had no reverse but the problem turned out to be burnt reverse clutch packs and a bad intermediate gear carrier. Good luck!

2006 chevy silverado k1500 extended cab z71 off road truck starts fine but when u go to shift into drive or any gear truck

The linkage came loose from the shifter to the transmission, I suspect. That should be an easy, or cheap fix.

Sounds like it might be a bad driveshaft universal joint.

I have a 1994 1500 extended cab pickup, with I think a 350 engine. The truck will not go in overdrive, but will get up to about 40 mph in drive. It will still go in reverse and 1st and 2nd gear but not...

Before you go tearing up the transmission. Check tp sensor (throttle position sensor). Keep in mind transmissions also have electronic parts that govern shift patterns . Signals sent to the truck's computer from sensors govern when it shifts. I would check sensors and wiring to those sensors first before tinkering with a transmission.

1995 chevy suburban wont go in reverse

One of the bands or clutch packs are burned out in the transmission. Or that piston could have a blown or ripped seal.
That vehicle has a 4L60E transmission I am fairly sure. If it is a 1 ton it may have the 4L80E. If you really want to know I could probably check my books and tell you exactly which clutch pack.
I should think you would have other symptoms though as well like first gear going straight to second or some such thing.
This is all assuming it is an automatic. If it is a manual stick transmission then you still have a transmission problem. Would need more information to track down what exactly. Things like noises and circumstances. for instance the shifter goes into the reverse spot but
nothing more then a funny noise. OR the shifter wont even go into the reverse position.

sounds like your hydraulic clutch has failed. I would reccommend an internal inspection of your transmission by a mechanic.
