My car recently was giving me problem with starting and running. It sometime would start then die or would drive for few mins then just cut off and not be able to start for a few mins. I changed the coolant temp sensor and it idles fine now and was wondering if that can affect the cutting off of the car. Dont wanna start to drive and it do the same. its low and towing is pain. thank you.
Very possible as the coolant temp sensor reports the engine temperature to the ECM so that the correct air/fuel mixture can be delivered
it it is faulty the ECM will not know if the engine is subzero temp or overheating so reports from the ambient temp and baro sensor will cause a lock up situation in the program of the ECM
now that you have run the car for a few miles , have the fault codes read again

yes bad ecu. exat same thing happened to a freind of mine he replaced maf, coolant sensor, distributor all that came trough check engine light. and still the same and chugged gas like crazy and fans were o always. i swapped his ecu with mine n car ran perfect. so he got new ecu and here he is driving happily to this day.
it was a 96 galant 2.4 sohc with around 75,000 miles.
good luck

It's definitely your injection pump seals mate.....common prob with these engines. My 1994 2.8TD was exactly the same until I had the sealls replaced. I went for the complete reconditioning and not just the main seal and it cost me £519 in total. Dunks

You need a 10 mil and 8 mil spanner, carb cleaner and mabie some wd40.
Remove the big hose which goes from the throttle body to the air filter housing. Under the throttle body there is a idle control valve, unplug it, spray some wd40 on the 8mil bolts and take them off. Clean the idle control valve and housing and anywhere else which looks dirty, dry it with a lint free cloth and then put everything back on.
remove the battery negative terminal and leave it off for 30 minutes, this will reset the ecu to factory settings.
On the top of the throttle body there is a black circular rubber screw cover, take that off and there should be a plastic screw.
Connect your battery and start your engine, unscrew the idle speed control (plastic screw) so it revs at 2000rpm cold. When the temp needle reached the middle so it revs at 1000rpm hot.
This should solve the problem, if you drive around and find that you in 4th gear, with your foot off the accelerator and the idle is going up and down madly then the idle control valve is worn out and it needs replacing. Cost around £125 on ebay.

idle control valve. bad plug wires and bad plugs will all cause that as well as a air leak in the vacumn hose on galant

maybe the trotle ecu. convert it to manual
