Ran this morning, but sounded abnormal at idle...loud ticking sound. Came home, went to leave again 10 mins. later, car turns over but will not crank. 5 speed manual, 93 sc2 saturn with 250k+ miles
You are saying the engine cranks but does not start, right ?
Does it sound like it has compression ? If not could be a broken timing belt.
All the belts are intact. The car tries to turn over, but will not start. It ran earlier this morning, but refuses to crank back up since returning from the pharmacy.
Still have power, ignition is working, dash lights, etc.
You would not see the timing belt unless you took the cover off. A ticking noise would normally be a valve but could be something with the timing belt. If you have normal compression on all 4 cylinders you would check for spark at the plugs and fuel pressure at the injectors.
Will take a look at the plugs and injectors in the morning. Been pouring over forums and other owners suggest checking coolant sensors?
If the coolant temp sensor failed, the radiator fan would run constantly, and you should have a check engine light with a code for the sensor.
radiator fan not running constantly. getting a loud pop, almost like a backfire when trying to turn it over now. my uncle suggested the camshaft might have broken??
So you need to have someone check compression on all 4 cylinders to check the timing belt and cam.

Sounds like the the Bendix is bad in the starter, which pushes out the drive gear to engage the flywheel. You'll need to replace the Bendix or the starter. It's a bit tough to get to the starter, it is underneath the intake manifold.
