Gas Mileage on a 2008 Jeep Liberty

I just purchased a used 08 Jeep Liberty Limited. It had about 5500 miles on it. I am noticing that I am getting about 200 miles per tank, roughly 11 MPG and that seems very low. It is an automatic transmission with a 6 cylinder 3.7 liter engine. Most of my driving is city but from what I am reading a lot of people seem to be getting better mileage.

I am taking it into the dealer tomorrow to check.

According to the dealership this is normal. I am having a tough time believing it.

My Jeep has part time 4WD and I hardly have it on because there is no reason to.

I also own a 2008 Jeep liberty and get close to 200 miles per half tank I know I can get close to 380 miles and my gas light comes on.

1 other thing to consider is does it have 4 wheel drive and if so what version?

I have a part time 4 wheel drive so I only engage it when I am in bad weather snow, ice, ect. or if I go off road. My system is not designed to be in 4 wheel mode on dry roads.

If you have a full time 4 wheel or all wheel drive model that will definitely eat up more gas as the engine has to work more to pull and push all 4 wheels all the time.

Not a total solution but I hope it helps give more insight!

Best of luck,

Joe

How often does the timing belt need to be changed on a 2002 Jeep Liberty 4x4 3.7 engine

Now this depends on the climate and mileage if you live in a dry hot climate then around 6/7 years or around the 80K miles ,but if you live in a more temperate climate then around 10 yrs or 100,000miles

How can i get better gas mileage out of my liberty

  1. change spark plugs @ 30k miles
  2. change air filer,consider a more efficient filter such as K & N
  3. avoid 'jack rabbit' starts & stops
  4. try premium gas-the 'cost' per mile may outweigh the MPG on regular.
  5. check & maintain proper tire pressure.

Poor gas mileage on my jeep liberty

change your spark plugs if they haven't been changed in awhile. check your tires for the propper psi there should be a sticker on the inside of your drivers door that will tell you recomended air pressures go by this not the recomendations on the tires. also where are you getting you gas does it contain ethanol sometimes this can burn faster.

Poor gas mileage on my jeep liberty

Did this happen overnight or was it a gradual loss? Did you do any kind of repair before you lost the gas mialage? Is there a check engine light on or did it come on and go off? Did anything weird happen before the jeep got bad gas mileage? It's hard to diagnose a problem like this without actually touching the car.
Any other info might help me steer you in the right direction.

Jeep liberty gas mileage

when was the last time you put in fuel injector cleaner? I put in Lucas Oil Injector cleaner every other or every oil change.

There are alot of factors affecting your gas mileage. Tire wear, tire pressure, wheel alignment, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, oxygen sensors, just to name a few. So to say what you need is just shooting in the dark without more information. I would probably start with your oxygen sensors, and then perform a tuneup. If your vehicle pulls to one side or the other when driving on the highway you need to stop into the shop for a wheel alignment.

to increase gas mileage make sure you keep on top of tire air pressure you can also have your tires filled with nitrogen instead of air also a K&N air filter does wonders and is good for lifetime worth every penny. another smart move is to use a fuel system cleaner regularly Lucas makes great products for this try local parts store.
