Judy-make sure the car is cool and follow the upper radiator hose to the engine.the thermostat should be located under a housing @the motor. remove the clamp, pull the hose off, remove two(usually bolts and pry housing off motor careful not to scratch mating surfaces. clean mating surfaces well and apply sealant to bothsides of gasket-should come w/thermostat.make sure thermostat is pointing correct way(box should tell you)askcounter guy @auto store for correct sealant tighten bolts-add alittle premixed antifreeze(depending where the hose is @ it may leak when you pull the hose.I know this is alot of info but hey you asked..buy a chilton repair manual to help with projects like this..Good luck

I am not sure why there would be a heat shield in the way. Buy a manual and you will save time and money.Good luck

First thing to check is the fuel pressure. The port to do this is on the top of the engine, it looks like a tire valve stem, but metal, you may be able to borrow a tester from Kragen or another parts store like it, they loan tools, no charge, pressure at idle should be around 40 PSI
