Coul poss. have a bad starter, check batt and cable connections for corrosion. 98 does not have a passlock security system installed, but if it has keyless entry the keyless entry module could cause a no crank issue. the only way to find out is to check for voltage on the purple wire at the starter when key is turned to the crank position. if you have power the starter is bad. if you do not have power there is something else causing the no crank issue.

Does the security light come on or flash?--this would indicate a passkey problem, which only the dealership can fix-they hook up a Passkey reader that knows what chip is in your key for the ignition system and further diagnose the failure of the system.
Have you changed or checked the battery yet?---computer controlled vehicles do funny things when the battery dies.
Have you checked the connections at the battery? Are they loose or corroded? Have you checked the vehicle grounds? Have you tried to SPIN the starter with a screwdriver?---this means short the main battery cable connection to the small stud on the starter with a screwdriver DON'T TOUCH THE METAL PART OF THE SCREWDRIVER--WEAR GLOVES IF POSSIBLE--does it SPIN over? If not hit the starter with a hammer (don't try to kill it, just tap) then try to short it again.
