When the heater is on in my 2003 Freelander, I get a film on my windshield and front windows. There is no smell of coolant and the heater core is not leaking. Any suggestions? Running defrost doesn

My 2003 Freelander has 185,000 miles on it. I used to smell coolant when I had my heater on, but I don't anymore. Now the issue is this film developing on my windows when I have the heater on. The heater core is not leaking (checked by mechanic). This car isn't worth a huge repair bill, so I'm hoping it's something easy (HA!) to correct - like maybe a hose - or it's harmless and I can just live with it.

I believe the film on your window is coolant vapor. To test this go to autozone or similar and get a coolant leak detection kit. The kit contains a UV flashlight a pair of glasses and a dye you add to the radiator. Add the dye to radiator, drive vehicle normally but run heater, let film condensation on Windows. Wait until dark and put on the glasses. Shine light on the Windows that have film if the window glows then the film is antifreeze vapor and not safe to breathe.

You have an air leak in your coolant pipes under the dash.
There is air in the system.
When the engine is off the coolant is dripping onto the carpet.

With problems like this the only sure way is to go to a workshop and get them to pressure test the cooling system, that is if you dont have a pressure tester yourself. Then it should be seen where you are losing coolant. It may leak from any where, hoses, loose clips, even the filler cap. Is there any sign of antifreeze that has dried
hope this helps

I have experienced a few radiators on both discoveries and series 2 range rovers being blocked causing overheating. Also might pay to check your fan hub when the engine is hot switch off and check how freely you can turn the fan

Film on inside of windshield and a sudden large coolant leak. Could this be the radiator or what else?

Coolant leak is likely coming from the heater core or coolant line to/from heater core.

The film on the windshield is antifreeze.

White smoke from air vents while ac was on,greasy film on window while defrost is on/heater coil?

Yes. The heater core is leaking bad. The white smoke is the coolant and steam. Be sure to add water to the radiator before you burn up the engine.

My 99 mercury cougar heater fogs the windows at start up and doesnt produce the amount of warmth as it did before

What you've described is a bad heater core. You most likely can smell coolant inside the car and the inside windshield will have a film on it. It's also a good possibility that the passenger floor is soaked with coolant.

Water puddle inside van on passenger side in front of seat

First see if coolant level is full. Do you get a funny smell &/or film on windshield when heater defrost is on? If no to all most likely plugged evap drain for a/c need to unplug so it will drain outside the van. If yes to any you have bad heater core.

Heater immediately fogs all windows and there is a sweet odor in the cab of 2003 Buick Rendezvous, defroster works fine, but will not clear the windows after heat is put on

Sounds like a possible heater core failure(hole in it) the smell indicates to me the coolant(anti-freeze) is leaking into the passenger compartment.
Check the carpet in front of the front passenger seat for moisture, this would confirm heater core leak.
Good luck !

2004 Freelander Coolant Leak

Check for bubbling in the reservoir tank. It is possible that there is a head gasket leak. Look for steam coming from the exhaust pipe? Steam coming out from reservoir cap vent!

Front windsheild is steaming up

If you are talking about steaming up on the inside, you could have a heater core leaking coolant. Check the passenger side front carpet and see if it's wet. A big job to replace.
