There is a blend door motor on top of the housing. If you open the glove box, and look to the top of the housing near the left rear of the glove box, you should see the blend door motor. You can check it at this point. Also check the housing, as I have seen a number of these with a damaged or broken housing.

Check the heater control valve, when u switch to heating mode, this valve is supposed to open, allowing hot engine coolant into the heater core under the dash, it is not opening the valve, the clicking is the sound from it attempting to open the valve.

It sounds like the control motor switching from hot to cold is stuck halfway in between the two temp settings. You will have to take it down and replace it, it is mounted under dash passenger side near the blower motor.

I had the same problem, I believe its your Blend Door Actuator. The noise you hear I believe is the gears inside of the actuator continually trying to open the blend doors, but gears are probably stripped or broken. I just got mine out this morning and half of the teeth on one of the gears were completely gone...Im not sure what causes this...but I hear you can remove it without removing the dash, although my attempt to do so was very unsucessful. ended up dropping steering column, dash, everything to get that bad boy off. I actually broke one of my clips to my speedometer while putting dash back together. The chiltons helped a lot while doing this job. there are a few hidden bolts that the book points out for you...
