If you have rear disc brakes all you have to do is take the two bolts off and lift the caliper off and pull the pads out but now if you have drums there is a rubber boot behind the whole drum assembly take it out use a screw driver or a brake tool to back off the tension of the shoes

I have removed the disc rear brake and pads on my 2003 Ford focus SVT. How is the piston compressed or retracted?

Hi There.
you may have to turn the piston back in (ie;twist ) some fords have a sort of threaded self adjuster, so you will need a large pair of vice grips or water pump pliers
be sure to take notice which way you turn the piston, or you may end up with the piston in you hand, then the fun really starts.
Good Luck.

How to replace rear brake pads

Jack up car, remove wheel. There are two bolts that hold the caliper on. Remove these. Caliper comes off, take old pads out. There is a special tool to compress the piston back into the caliper (do not use a C Clamp on the rears.) Put new pads back on, re-install the caliper, and put the wheel back on. Pump the brake pedal until it is firm. Done.

How to push back the piston in the rear brake caliper of Focus LX 2ltr 2003

There is actually a special tool for pushing the piston back, you could try and put some force on the piston but at the same time you have to turn the piston because the hand brake works of there aswell and there is some thread inside that keeps on adjusting the caliper piston as the pads waer down.
Take special care not to damage the calliper rubbers when turning the piston

How do i adjust the hand break system on focus 1999

hi there, you will need to slacken of the cable adjuster just next to the handbrake lever under its gaiter, jack up the vheicle and remove the rear wheels, remove the rear brake drums, clean and adjust the brake shoes also remove any dust from the drum, if the shoes are worn out they will need replacing, with the drums removed check everything is working freely by getting someone to operate the handbrake lever as you visually inspect the shoes you should see them moving backwards and forwards, if not then strip down and free off, i would advice doing one side at a time so you always have a point of referance to work from. check the wheel cylinder is free and not leaking, if so replace. adjust the brake shoes and refit the drums, once this is done readjust your hanbrake cable so it comes up 3-4 clicks, if this seems a little dawnting your local garage should be able to do you this job for a small fee, hope this helps

How to remove rear brakes (ie pads and discs) from a Ford Focus 04 1.8 TDCI

You will need a special socket which is square and has a small prong at each corner. That will screw the piston down to the the stop. As to getting the caliper off buy an inexpensive shop manual which will show the procedure with pictures, it is simple and once the pistons are seated into the caliper with the adapter I described you are home. I got my socket adapter at a neighborhood auto parts store. Don't forget to bleed your brake fluid.
