I will assume this is a 4.3 engine, the oil pressure /fuel switch is located on the rear of the engine next to distributor, what is the problem?
yes it is a 4.3 vortec. the engine will turn over but not start. I have started from the rear and trial and error. the fuel pump is good, new filter, checked injectors. I know I need new plugs, and distributer but just before it stopped running it had really low oil pressure when idling so am just checking all my options.

I assume from the year it has high mileage. With mileage comes wear in these engine's bearings allowing oil pressure to drop because of the excess clearance between cam and bearings, also the crank and bearings. When the engine is hot and idling the oil is thinner and goes by the bearings quicker. If you have good oil pressure while driving, I'd leave it alone, maybe use a thicker oil or some lucas additive. My 89 does the same thing sometimes in the summer, but don't remember it doing it this summer. I use Mobil-1 and an AC Delco filter.

should be close to the oil filter or where the oil lines going to the filter attach to the engine block

That eliminates the crankshaft and camshaft position sensors. Have you checked the fuel injector itself for an open winding or stuck valve plunger? There should not be a steady 12 volts to the injector--if good injector, it would be spraying fuel steadily into the throttle body. But at least the engine should try to run if poorly. Take the injector out, dry it off with air, and intermittently apply 12 volts to one terminal while grounding the other. You should hear a click from inside every time you touch 12 volts. If not, replace it. If it does, it may be plugged with debris. Try blowing through it in reverse with compressed air.

Check the magnets on the distributor. Mine did all these symptoms and turned out the magnets had depolarized. Replace them or at least check for magnetic pull. Wierd but true.
