Check that the egr valve is not stuck open remove it and cover the hole on the intake side and see if it goes away or with engine running remove the vac line from the valve and install a short length of hose and suck on the hose to draw a vac on the valve it only takes 3-5 inches of vac to open it the engine should stall or run even worse if it is not stuck and if it was stuck open you didnt change anything

SOURCE: 1996 Honda Accord Rough Idle Even After tune up

Perform a valve clearance inspection and adjust if necessary. Tight or sticking valves will cause a misfire or rough running concern. Note: Perform valve adjustment when the engine is stone cold. 4cyl: INT 0.26mm EXH: 0.30mm (V6 engine are hydraulic and no adjust necessary.) Also check for a sticking or stuck open EGR valve. For diagnostic purposes only: Remove the EGR valve. Place a business card over the EGR passage and bolt the EGR valve back on. This plugs the EGR ports and if the misfire goes away the EGR valve is partially stuck open and is defective.
Check for low fuel pressure. Check for low compression. Check cam timing. Check for a weak ignition coil. Also don't over look the possibility of worn or broken engine mounts which cause excessive engine movement and engine vibration. -hope this helps

What will make the #1 and #2 spark plugs to foul out? Parts that are new:Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, pickup coil.Cleaned the intake with Sea-Foam, that's what made it run better, but only #1 and #2 plugs...

I would go for the fuel injectors. Dry carbon, being black(to much fuel) or white (to little fuel). Both lean to the injectors. Clogged or open. My guess would be black. The crack would really only cause a O2 sensor fault, sucking air, that could cause a white burn on the plugs, to lean. Have the codes read..

Kia sedona 2003 not firing on #3 cylinder

With the vehicle running remove the plug for the fuel injector for cylinder #3. RPM should drop. If you have access to nous lights plug one into the injector plug and make sure it flashes. If no flash either the wiring is open or grounded or the computer is not commanding it on and off. You should also look at the cylinder compression. Make sure plugs aren't cracked, are correctly gapped, and no carbon tracking.

ONE FOULED SPARK PLUG

Either worn valve guides, valve guide oil seals on that particular cylinder, or worn piston rings. You need to perform a compression test to find out which one of these it is.

Compression check each cylinder with all plugs removed. Take notes on which cylinder has the weakest compression.

If no compression difference and if all operating within range, then change the valve guide oil seals on problematic cylinder.

If the cylinder shows a significant drop in compression, then drop no more than five or six drops of oil down the plug hole of the problematic cylinder, and perform the compression test again. The oil will temporarily seal any worn piston rings, so the pressure should rise when retesting if the rings are worn. If the pressure remains low, then your valves are not sealing properly and require attention.

Cylinder 1 misfire 2003 chevy impala.. My car started running rough all of a sudden today. like the engine was shaking. took it to auto one said cylinder 1 misfire. what does that mean & what should i...

a number one misfire means that the number one cylinder is no longer working as good as it should or is not working at all. The number one cylinder is on the back side of the engine on the passenger side. 1-3-5 are the three cylinders in the back.

Three basic things can cause a misfire.
1. a bad spark plug wire
2. a bad spark plug.
3. a bad injector.

Remove the sparks plug wire from the spark plug and remove the spark plug. Inspect the inside of the wire and the outside of the plug to see if there is any carbon tracking. it will look like black lightning bolts. If there is any carbon tracking replace the plugs and wires.

Check the spark plug gap. It should be around .060". if its over .080" the plug is worn out.

Check for spark with a spark tester.

the fuel injector is a little trickier.

Start with the things above and let me know what you find and we'll go from there.

I changed out spark plug wires last week 1990 Ford f150 Lariat. This week it sounds like a hard knocking from engine after driving 10 to 20 miles. Is my timing off by just changing the spark plug wires?

Knock at low rpm and high rpm" It may be oil pump , After oil heats up it gets thinner and and less lubracated. I would change the oil and add some oil stabalizer, shouls help, if not probaly a rod.

Cranks over slowly but doesn t seem to want to run on all cylinders

First remove and inspect the spark plugs If one is coated with black carbon replace it and if the car has not had a tune up in recent memeory replace the distributor cap if equipped and all spark plugs. If this car has individual coils only replace the corresponding coil with bad plug after replacing the spark plug wires and plugs, and only isf the problem persists it may be a bad coil for that cylinder or spark plug.
