I did a cam lifters an timing job i line up timing marks with #1 piston tdc on compression stroke set distributor to number on piston but no start it act likes it wont to start but dont it backfires out exhaust. could my carb be the reason its not starting cause when i pull the throttle it slow down the cranking
There's a chance the cam and crank gears are not in line with each other. You could try placing the rotor 180 degrees from TDC and see how it does.
I've check plenty of times and they are line up
I no one one of my so called frieinds when i was with him his 81 chevy sierra started back fireing around 55 mph , end was getting worse as we nurse it back to my place, Buy the time we pulled into the parking lot where i was living to make a long story short the truck died, Right when he pulled in, Here it was the control module that was shot, Because we tried starting the truck up before we put the new one in it would not start , Evan though we check it for spark end it was getting ,spark , The minute we put tnhe new one in , End tried it , It fired right up. Are you shure you got the spark plug wires back on in the right order?
Yelp there in order
I am pulling out my hair here guy trying to figure out why it will not start, I really don,t think the carb could have to do with the problem your haveing with it, For the hell of it try a different control mudule end distributer cap if you can get your hands on them, Evan from a auto wrecker,
I thought bout that but it's getting enough fire

Is the fire order the same on a oldmo
SOURCE: disturbed timing...need info on resetting non-adjustable timing.
Sounds like your off just one tooth, try pulling up dist. and back it up one tooth( counter clockwise) and try it again. When you reinstall the dist. it always goes in just before #1 not right on #1. Your in the ball park.
SOURCE: cant find timing marks on camshaft sprockets on 91
THE MARKS SHOULD BE MARKED AT THE OUTTER SURFACE OF THE CAM SPROCKETS THERES 4 TOTAL ON THE CAMS AND TWO ON THE CRANK. GOOD LUCK THIS PICTURE IS RIGHT OUT OF MY TIMING MARK BOOK......2

SOURCE: change the distributor cap and rotor now car wont start
We did the same thing with ours. We have a 1985 Cutlass Supreme that we put a 350 Camaro engine in it. At first it would not start for anything we eventually had to take it to a mechanic and he said it was the timing and he fixed it. Now it runs great!
But yeah it is almost impossible to get chevy engine in a oldmobile if you are unsure of what you are doing.

Could be the security. You can either bypass it yourself or get a bypass module. The wires in the ignition switch are horrible about breaking from being turned over so much through the years. You can also by a new switch. I'd go through the proper diagnosing steps for this but more than likely that's your problem.
