1997 nissan maxima problem alternator was bad I replaced alternator two weeks later battery died I figure it was old and needed to be replaced replaced battery, worked for a few days then battery was drained. Nothing seemed to be left on, like lights or anything.when I jump start the car it started fine but using a meter i can see if I took off jumper cables the voltage would start at 13.4 then slowly just start dropping until the car would just died. Any suggestions. the alternater was a refurbished one. thanks

Your voltage regulator is probably the problem. I do not know where it is. In some cars it is in the engine controller.

Sounds as if you need the electrical portion of the ignition switch. The contacts inside are most likely worn out.

1997 Nissan Maxima brake and battery lights on

John, I think I may have already answered this one.Check and clean battery connections and all grounds(loosen and re tighten all ground connections to give good contact), check belt for being loose. Nissan forums say it is a bad alternator.

I have a 2004 Nissan maxima. The altinator went out so i replaced it and the battery. One week later, the same problem i had the first time, losing power and car draining the battery, happened. I replaced...

The only time I've had a problem with an alternator repeatedly failing is due to improper shimming and the pully wasn't aligned with with the cam and crank shaft which in turn put a tweak in the alternator pully and strain on the bearings. I must point out, this was on a 1978 Chev with V belts. The one that failed a week later, did you have it tested to be sure it failed? Same question for the most recent one. If the alternator are not indeed failing, I'l look to either the ECM or the battery cables/wiring from alternator to battery.

Car smokes, wont stay running

You most likely blew a cylinder head gasket.

1997 Maxima has had 4 alternators in 4 years!

Hey! I have a 97 Maxima SE and it runs great too! I have been through 4 alternators in 12 years....3 in the first 5 and finally one for the last 7. Make sure you have a new- Nissan part specific alternator. And, make sure your battery is not weak nor small for your car size. Hope this helps!

Flickering Lights

You do need an alternator. Nissan has a campaign on Maxima alternator in certain years such as 96-98 I believe. Go to your friendly Nissan dealer abd have them punch your VIN number into the NNA net. they will know and that will tell them if your vehicle applies by the VIN. I have seen the alternator on fire. There was fire inside of the alternator. Have it checked or the car can catch on fire.

Brake lightand battery light came on and a/c getting warmer

Your charging system is not working properly. Most likely the alternator is going bad. If so your battery will die soon because it not being charged by alternator. Check belt first then check charging system if fine get back to me and I will be glad to provide more assistance if needed. If not replace alternator., problem solved. Good Luck
