Why do the doors on my 2004 nissan quest sl keep unlocking by themselves even when the van is off?

It started while driving. I would hear the doors unlock even if they were already unlocked. tonight i went outside to smoke and i heard the doors unlock and the interior lights come on while the car was parked and turned off (i heard it twice). could it be possible that one or both of the switches are going bad?

It may be that water/moisture has gotten in behind the door panels...do you notice that it worsens in damp(er) weather? The car unlocks by itself if you leave the key in the ignition and you try and lock the doors.

Or somebody has the same coded fob (unlikely).

You might want to reprogram the remotes if you determine that the area behind the door panels is dry and there are no corroded wires, etc.

Good Luck.

2004 Nissan Quest Remote Programming Note: You must have all remotes on hand when performing this procedure. Any remotes not used during this procedure will become inactive.
1. Close and lock all doors with the driver's side power lock switch located on drivers door panel.
2. Insert key into ignition (DON'T TURN) and remove it from the ignition key cylinder at least 6 times within 10 seconds (this will need to be done at approximately one second intervals). You may need to insert and remove the key up to 10 or 12 times until your hazard lamps flash. PLEASE NOTE: Withdraw key completely from ignition cylinder each time. If this procedure is performed too fast or too slow the system will not enter programming mode.
3. Insert key into ignition and turn to the ACC position.
4. Within 5 seconds, push the LOCK button on the keyless remote. Your hazard lamps will flash. PLEASE NOTE: Do not press the button on the remote more than one time or the programming will not be successful.
5. If there are any remaining remotes (including working ones), Unlock then Lock all doors using the switch on drivers door panel. Within 5 seconds of locking and unlocking doors press LOCK button on the next remote. Your hazard lamps will flash. Repeat this step for each remote (including any working remotes).
6. When all remotes have been programmed turn the key to the OFF position, remove keys from the ignition, unlock doors using the driver's side power lock/unlock switch and open the driver side door. Test all remotes.

SOURCE: 1993 Nissan Maxima SE Car Alarm freaks out, and other electrical

Im no professional but i did recently buy a 93 maxima and i have the same security alarm problem and my powered locks dont work at all. im taking off the door panel today to take a look and see if the alarm sensor is loose or damaged, if it is, ill probably just disconnect it. one thing i have noticed though is that when i hit the lock or unlock button, i hear a faint click from the dashboard area which im assuming is the solenoid on a transistor which would mean that the buttons work but the transistor isnt delivering power. Semi-Solution for Locks: Listen for very quiet click when you lock/unlock doors, if you hear it, uve got major work to do, if you dont, then take apart the door and check the switch connections. Semi-Solution for Alarm: take off the door panel and disconnect the sensor.

Nissan quest sunroof drain clogged

open your skylight and feel in the front corners for muck stuck infront of the drainage holes. Use a pipe cleaner or other wire to poke through the holes and the water should drain out. It is a little difficult to see the holes but just feel around.

2004 nissan quest keeps dying while driving

Hi there, the same issue was mine 2004 nissan quest SL. The engine shutts off while driving. I used the scan tool its name is CanOBD2 Diagnostic Tool from canadian tire and find out that a code P0340 with the message camshaft position sensor circuit (Bank 1 or single sensor) needs to be changed which i did. I went to dealership and the part price was canadian $101 dollars. I also asked the dealership for the diagram where to be fixed/to change the old sensor with the new one. He also printed out and let me understand the position of that map for this sensor. I did at my own and opened the air fiilter hoses, and all the intake hoses and its on the left side of the air intake hose mechanism. You can use key #10 to unscrew only one bolt and its easy to open and take it off and instlal the new one with the same position as the old one. And put all other stuff back which u opened and just run the venicle take a half hour trip on highway and there will be no more check engine light and other lights stays on your dashboard and no shutting off of vehicle while driving. I changed new sensor and its running perfect. You can also investigage more about this as i personally did and find out with the help of this scan tool above mentioned code is the issue for shutting off of engine while driving. My dear just do more research about above mentioned code and you will do it yourself like i did and saved not only diagnositc charges about $150/- but also saved the labour charges. Good luck.

I hear noise when I start my 2005 nissan quest for 3 seconds and then it goes away. I only hear the noise when i start the van and the van has been parked for hours. or when it is cold.

you may have a loose belt that is squeeling when you start the vehicle..
or it could be the power steering pump....
I would need more info to diagnose this issue...
