1996 4.0 Range Rover won't unlock

My husband went to the store today and our 1996 Range Rover S.E 4.0 locked down, meaning he couldn't open any doors at all. He has tried to remove the battery from the remote key and is unable to open it. He was unable to even open the doors manually. Apparently this is a common, annoying Range Rover problem and they were hyper vigilant  about protecting the car from theft. Help!

This car is in super lock mode... when you press remote 2times to lock or when you lock with remote and try to unlock using key manually.

there is a 4 digit number to open the door, its like opening a safe, starting from the left(key in car door) it goes L/R/L/R. so if number code is 1234..... left 1, right 2, left 3, right 4.

or if this too troublesome you can ask landrover dealer to remove the KEYCODE.

happy trying.....

Range rover p38 problems

I have the same problem sometimes
1 Check the condition of your battery, if old, it will not give full power required to communicate with the security system.
2 If you don't have the EKA of your RR, try this next time you get caught, put key in the drivers door look, press unlock button on key fob and at the same time turn to unlock, if all locks unlock then the engine should not be immobilized - Good luck

Unfortunately, there is a trick to replacing the battery.
1) Open the Driver side door.
2) Open the Bonnet and take the battery cover off.
3) Use your remote to lock and unlock the car (keeping the driver side door open)
4) Pull the Negative Lead from the battery first, followed by the Positive Lead.
5) Change or replace with charged battery.
6) Closed down Bonnet.
7) Your windows, sunroof, and key FOB will not work... so follow the next steps.

7a) Insert your key, with door closed into the exterior lock on driver's side.
7b) While turning the key to lock the door, hold down the "lock" button on your remote for 5 seconds while in "lick" position
7c) Your remote will reset, and you should be able to use your remote now

I got locked INSIDE my 2001 Lexus LX470 today. I

This is the anti theft function working as it should. Your husband needed to override it with the key. The command told the car to lock down. Because the key was not in the car the anti theft set off the alarm and locked down the engine as well.
This is exactly what you would want the car to do if you left it locked on the street with your windows down while shopping. Otherwise someone could reach in the window, unlock the door, slide in and start hot wiring the car.
These lock functions are programmable and can be changed at the dealership.

Range Rover Passenger Door Will Not Open

I have a 2002 land rover discovery and my passenger front door won't unlock with the interior lock button on the dash or with the key fob. The only way to unlock the door is to pull the handle on the inside of the door. Is the actuator bad?

Passenger door will not open

There are several possibilities. You need to determine if the problem is mechanical or electrical.

Can you move the door lock lever manually? If that does not work the problem is probably the mechanism and it will mean removing the door trim to get at the various linkages - there are several - see image. It does not happen often but the ends of the connecting wires can slip out of their housings. Also the plastic ring on the keylock can break.

The other option is an electrical fault like a broken wire in the loom running through the door frame. You will need to find both ends of each wire and test for continuity with a multi-meter. One of mine was broken right in the middle. If that is the cause, it is easiest to run a new wire to replace the broken one - not an easy job but it can be done with patience.
