you may have a starter motor problem. Pull the starter motor and bench test . The armature bushes are probably worn out allowing the armature to pole out

yes that is high try down to 5% which will change your shift pattern.

Study up on what an Idle Air Control Valve does then make your decision. They can be expensive.
Search fault symptoms

Check your operator's manual. Make sure any and all fuses that have anything to do with the affected items are not blown and are working properly. If you can; check for loose fuse connections or wires. Hope this helps. God bless!

there is a flapor motor that is controled by vacume, check for leaks in the vacume lines on the engine.

Could this be the fan clutch making it seem to idle high? Does it calm down after a short distance of driving? Watch RPM gauge to see if it is actually high revving or just noise?

You pretty much answered yourself here, the switch sounds like it is going bad.

In my 1996 ranger xl my high idle problem was due to a bad ect sensor. After I replaced that I have had no problems with high idle. Not sure if yours is idleing high all the time like mine was but that sensor fixed the problem for me. Hope this helps!
