sound like throttle position sensor.have it check out.also check air duct connected to mass air flow sensor and throttle body.if air duct is loose or off.it will cause severe hesitation.

My 2001 4.4V8 X5 radio would come on for a while then would not play any sound, iv looked all over the internet but to no luck, so i decided to have a look myself and after many different attempts I managed to fix the problem. There are two amps in a X5 one is located to the left of the boot under the CD changer and sat nav units, try disconnecting the wiring harness and re-fitting this, this didn't work on my X5 but is worth a look, the second amp is located below the spare wheel in the boot below the air suspension unit which is removed by unscrewing the three 15mm nuts and moving to the right side of the boot foot well, you will now be able to see the cars battery around the battery (hole) is a black BMW plastic cover with 3 or 4 screws remove this and your now in the area where your X5 second amp is and other components the amp is the one that is situated to the left back of the cluster it has a radio connection and a larger wiring harness connection, mine was loose, causing the fault simply undid the wiring harness quick but not excessive spray of WD40 and connected back up, it takes around half an hour per amp to check but could save you the radio has worked fine ever since hope this is of some help.
