How many miles on trans? does fluid smell burnt?350 turbos are good tranneys but they do go bad. in my experance its reverse that goes out first on thies transmissions but thats not saying that it does not happen the other way either. my best guess is you need a rebuild. when you say it tries to move in forward gear that tells me that the clutches are shot. 350 turbos are worth rebuilding. its up to you.

01 suburban 1500 4x4 auto, no reverse or second gear, skips right to third, little trans noise in p,r,n then goes away in drive thanks mark

sounds mechanical. No reverse and no lower gears. If it were an electrical or computer control issue would default to second gear and still have reverse. Sorry, but I think you will have to pull the tranny on this one.
Good luck.

1988 wrangler goes foward but not in reverse. It won't engage in reverse. 1st, 3rd, 4th are great 2nd winding sound. what needs to be fixed or replaced?

it sounds like you have 2 bad gears, 2nd gear may be fine for an hour or for ten years, theres no telling on that. your reverse gear is probably shelled out. your best bet is to rebould your transmission or buy a new one, sorry

Transmision wont back up

you need a different tranny because the reverse is a direct gear and is doent engage, the reverse doest work with the drive gear system,so you have a internal mechanical problem in you tranny

The truck has no reverse, all foward gears work fine

That can be, and often is, an indication that you need a new tranny filter and fluid change. If that doesn't solve the problem then the pump in the tranny is getting worn.

My 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee will suddenly not go into reverse. It sounds like the gear switches but now it won't move when the gas is applied.

IF IT GOES FOWARD JUST FINE AND YOU HAVE LOW GEAR IN FOWARD CHECK TOO SEE IF YOUR EMERAGNCY BREAK IS PARTLY ON OR EVEN IF YOUR RAER BRAKES ARE BAD
