suspension system, check your tires for bumps and the struts,, your tires is the most of all neglect, the rim should also be closely inspected I know it aluminum those items has to be inspected, Auction car are moved by a forklift at the front tires they are not driven they are forklift from one area to another, you notice you replaced the battery, its because they never start or drive it
Sounds like your air ride suspension is either leaking air in the air bags, air lines, etc, or the compressor is not working. If your truck is still under warranty take it to the dealership to get it fixed or with a good mechanic. If it is an air bag or the compressor start checking online for any good, cheap parts because parts for this SUV run expensive.
i am not familiar with the mercedes suspension but your problem is caused by bad shocks .. not sure if they are seperate from the hydraulic system .. if they are then thats what you need .. if the shocks are part of the hydraulic system (that would be some neat engineering) .. then there is likely a valve that acts like a shock absorber in that system .. it sounds like the suspension system is working good .. its just the shock absorber system that is causing the trouble ..
try turning the air ride compressor off and letting it go all the way down then turn it back on and see if it fixes it. the switch is either on the right hand kick panel or in the cargo area. if this does not fix it but the vehicle does lift up it is more than likely the level sensor causing the problem it is attached to the suspension.
knee action shocks on them i think !
like old english cars oil filled act like a pump!!
may just need resleeving the bores with stainless steel ones & new rubbers!
I hope this helps
Cheers Rob
New rear shocks/struts should solve the problem. Their purpose is to absorb bumps, bouncing, when worn out u get the basketball (up and down) effect. This is probably why the variable suspension switch has little effect. What is the mileage? Did this problem start gradually, or happen quickly? U can check rear shocks/struts for leakage of oil, another sign they should be replaced. Let me know if this helps, if not we can check further.
The FX is a bouncy car, but it's necessary to accommodate it's good performance. You can try some aftermarket air shocks, or check into different tires. That should help.
