Its very easy to do, did mine today, pull the door panel off, 3 screws 2 on each corner of the bottom of the door and one in the grab handle tray. Look at the door handle there will be a small plastic circle that pops off remove plastic piece and remove screw, lift door panle upwards and off. 3 screws for the new door handle remove old one unclip door lock and unclip door handle install new one same way you took the old one off.
Part is $26.00 at kia, takes 15 minutes to repair!

It could mean the rod connecting the handle to the latch has broken. You'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. and you can access the innards of the door

On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Pull back the weather seal and you'll be able to get to remove the bolts securing the outer handle on

I have a 99 Kia Sportage that had the exact same problem. You can fix the switches without having to spend ANY money to replace them! You first have to remove the door panel. Disconnect the wires going to the switch and then remove the switch from the panel. Remove all the screws from the botoom of the switch, including the ones holding the metal clips. Then carefully pry each side upwards from the locking tabs and pull the switch apart. BE CAREFUL not to lose the little metal rockers inside the switch! Now all you have to do is clean all the contacts and rockers with a brass wire brush, or fine sanpaper, (or even a good ink eraser will work). Then put the switch back together, reinstall it, and test it out! You'll be back in business and didn't spend a dime! I did this with my 98 Ford Windstar, too.
SOURCE: Replace left hand inside door handle
There should be 2 screws on the panel, one near the lower pocket and one holding the handle in. Remove both of them and with a flat head screwdriver, carefully begin prying the panel away from the door as you pull the panel toward yourself with the other hand. You just want to release the plastic door panel inserts from the edges and center of the panel. You can then disconnect any clips for power door locks, windows, etc. The rod is connected to the handle by a small clip at the base, release the clip and pull the rod vertically up and out of the handle. Remove and replace the handle and reverse the steps for installation. When you are ready to reinstall the door panel, line up the clips to the holes on the door and strike the panel with your hand using the base of your palm to secure the panel to the door.
