Most likely the K134 multifunction relay. Not a major expense to fix.

SOURCE: 2001 cadillac catera ebtcm removal how to

You need to remove the upper rad hose and the battery.
Then, use a torx to remove the 6 screws (hard to get at) which will remove the EBTCM from the brake modulator. You also must disconnect the two electrical connectors (the big one has a slide tab).
There are places you can send the module to and rebuild with warranty. I took a module from a 99' and installed it in my wife's 01'. Now the speedo, odometer, cruise and power steering work perfect and no TCM / ABS light.

Heat does not work for a catera 97 what it could be the problem

there is actuators that open up the vent doors so you can control where the air goes , Well there is also 1 that controls hot and cold air flow at the heater core, the actuator is almost impossible 2 replace without taking out the dash but you can disconnect it and open it manually. You will have 2 tie it up so it stays open , if you go this route your A/C wont work unless you shut the door or replace the actuator , even doing this manually is pretty tricky because you may have to remove the glove box radio and heater controls just 2 be able 2 feel around back there but the 1 you are looking 4 is closer 2 the floor on passenger side near the radio

Location of heater blend door on 97 catera

Im assuming you dont have heat right ? Well the 1 you will be looking for is on the heater core box behind the radio/next 2 the glove box, but the actuator that controls it is closer 2 the floor on passenger side behind kick panel on right side of radio , I had the same problem last year and could not replace it without taking the dash out so I just disconnected the actuator and tied the door open. This will cause you 2 loose the A/C unless you close the door and mine dont work so it stays open all year

Can an engine block heater be installed in a 1997 Cadillac Catera and if so how. If a block heater cannot be installed can an inline tank type heater be installed?

the answer is yes, it can be installed into the block by removing one of the side core/freeze plugs, this is a dirty messy job, if u can afford it have a shop intall it. see picture of block heater below

Cold weater start problem. Oil smoke in from the heater vent.

The same problem happened to me and it turned out to be my heater core.

Normally smoke will come from the heater core when it needs to be replaced.

Also the smell is most likely anti-freeze and and you normally smell it when your
engine is running warm or hot.

Check your coolant levels to be sure. and the hoses leading to your Heater Core

heater cores for that vehicle normally run $180 - $230 and you need to remove your
entire Instrument Panel (IP) (Dashboard) to replace it.

I hope this helps!

Car

All Cateras run hot, comes with the car. I have been experiencing the same problem with mine. Although I believe that my thermostat is faulty. They had many problems dealing with the cooling system because of the whole dex cool issue but Check the thermostat to make sure it is opening and the test the heat sensor to ensure continunity. If you get past that you got me.

Car leaking coolant

First of all ensure that your car is leaking coolant fluid, and what is dripping is not just water condensation from the air conditioner.
If you have a coolant liquid leak, it can be from one of the ducts leading to radiator , from water pump or radiator itself. Check liquid levels, and if you have a leak have the car inspected by a qualified mechanic.
A broken water pump, for example, can cause your motor to blow in few miles.
