Its most def a purely transmission issue i believe its the solenoids. have it taken to a reputable trans shop near and have them diagnose it with there speciall code reader.

SOURCE: 2001 Yukon XL SLT 4 speed Auto Transmission shift problem!

Sam,

I would start with a transmission fliud and filter service.

I would then have the trasnmission checked out by a transmission shop. The transmission most of the time has the direct drum band is starting to go. The shops can rebuild it no problem, This is a very common failure wiith the trasnmission.

Good Luck

SOURCE: my suburban with 4l60e wont

I had a similar problem with a Dodge Caravan - On the Dodge, it's called limp mode, designed to protect the engine and tranny. If you can get the OBD-2 engine codes and look them up online you may find that the problem is elsewhere in the drivetrain. Not really an answer, but a solid suggestion of where to go from here....

Slower engine speed in 4wd mode, 1st or 2nd gear (auto trans)

mcdevito75 here, I would figure yes, if your shifting while in motion, definetly yes, when you shift your changeing gear ratios in the 4 wheel drive or the transmission, this will cause the engine to slow but also make the gas pedal moe responsive. If you feel or hear this slowing down of the engine while standing still (at a red light) it"s most likely the computer contolled sensor in the tranny. I woulkd still check with my local shop for their advice too.

Trannsmisson Problems

check carefully to make sure it is shifting from 1st to 2nd.... there is a "sun reactor shell" inside the transmission that when broken causes reverse, 2nd and fourth to be lost. it is an extremely common failure.

best way to check.... drive along with the gear shift lever in "2" you should feel one shift as you accelerate. then carefully bump it into "3" or "D" whichever the case may be. another shift should be felt. if you do not feel a shift, you have likely stripped the teeth of that shell. hope this helps..
