Battery won't stay charged, it is brand new battery, alternator has been checked and it is good, blown BTN 60 watt fuse, on 1994 Mazda Protege.

My battery won't stay charged at night when using the headlights. It's a brand new charged battery and the alternator has been checked by an automotive store and is good, also I have a blown 60 watt fuse, it's a BTN fuse. What would cause this and what does BTN stand for?

The 60amp fuse probably is in the circuit between the alternator and the battery. Which would be why the battery is not getting charged.
Someone would need to check for a short in the wiring between the alternator and the battery.

SOURCE: not charging after new alternator

check for a big heavy fuse nearf the battery,i dont know if it has one?? iam a general mechanic not a mazada specialist, try this trick ? start engine and hold rpm at 1500,then disconnect battery and see if engine stops if it carries on running then altenator is working. If it carries on running then turn on all electrical thingys except the radio. If its still running ok then fault is elsewhere like a discharge overnight.

SOURCE: 1994 Mazda Protege, new battery, new alternator, wont charge

You must have blown a master fuse or fusible link.

Refer to the maintenance manual.

this happens sometimes during a jump start or a direct short in the elect system.

2001 Mazda protege radio and lights in car not working after jumper cable s were hooked up backwards

Connecting jumper cables the wrong wat around most likely has damaged electronic components such as a radio and computer.
Check the fuse box and replace any blown fuses.
If you still have problems then get an auto electrician to fix your car.

Ford v10 triton engine alternator won't charge brand new

I had a similar problem on my 98 Tioga (Ford v10). Turnd out to be just a blown fuse in the cab (wich controls the alternator's regulator.) First, confirm its the charging system and not the battery it's self. To do this, start the engine and take a voltage reading at the battery. It should be above 13 volts. If you don't have a tester, with the engine running, disconnect a battery terminal. If the engine stalls, it's proff the alternator is not out putting as it should. Check for a blown or missing fuse. Anything labeled "intrusment cluster" or "Alt" (maybe 14). If the fuses are ok you'll likely need to replace the alternator it's self. On those engines it's not hard to do. Only takes about 20 min and the the alternators are around $130. But defiantly check the fuses first.

I have a 2000 Dodge Caravan battery won't stay charged

You might have a bad alternator. Take your battery in to have it tested and if it is good then it is probably you alternator. Good luck
