I have done multiple things with the exhaust to regain power in my 97 cavalier, but with no sucess, what areas might i look into fixing now?

One day, on the hwy the car lost power quickly and since then hasn't liked to go up hills and has top speed around 25, and the car has no rpm gauge but it sounds and feels like its way out of range. have replaced oxygen censors, muffler, flex pipe, fuel filter, and just removed cat converter to see if there may be a pressure change but noticed no change. It never gave me much trouble before, and the timing chain was replaced about a year ago too. What might be the problem now?

Try a coolant temp sensor. The engine schedules fuel based on that sensor's readings. If they are wrong, fuel scheduling is way off .

SOURCE: hard start

Its your fuel pump.I had the same plomblem not too long ago.I was spraying either in to start it.I have a 97 chevy truck witch requires 65 psi to start and 55 to run properly. You need to find out much psi you need to start it.You can probaly look in your manual or just make a few calls. My truck had 55 psi and it ran fine i just had to get it running first.Good luck.I wonder if that fuel pressure regulator was a waste of time like it was for me.

SOURCE: I have a 1988 Cavalier Z-24 with a 2.8 engine.

Clean the Air Idle control (IAC) valve in the throttle body, MAF sensor, and EGR valve. Also check or replace the fuel pressure regulator at the fuel injector rails, make sure all the vacuum hoses are good and replace any damaged hoses. NO check engine light is a good thing but here is a link for you to check the car for any DTC codes. Good luck and keep up the good work and keep the car running.

SOURCE: 5.3 L Missing and Rough Idle Intermittently

i have a 2001 chevy z-71 5.3L. I keep getting a random/multiple misfire code for cylinder 1 . I have replaced plugs, wires, coil pack(only on #1 cylinder)., and fuel pump. I still keep getting the cylinder 1 misfire code. I put truck on a scanner and watched the cylinders. # 1 misfires at idle but quickly stops misfiring at around 1000 rpms. you can here the engine miss at idle but truck runs great on road . anyone else ever had this problem?

SOURCE: Can someone discribe symtoms of a bad or clogged

The symptoms are lack of power when trying to accelerate.Could also run a little rough. Will also cause a check engine light. You should have it checked to see what code you have. You can get the converter checked at a repair shop.It does not take long to check. You just need an exhaust back pressure tester. The best way is to call ahead and ask what they will charge to do the job.A good repair shop will explain exactly what they will do and should be able to show you the results.Hope this helps.Let me know if you have anymore questions.Good luck.

How much to fix a subframe on a 97 cavalier?

No one on the internet has that answer

I may take a shot a fixing my own,but fail to
see a repair shop do so,they don't have the
welding skills

On a 17 year old vehicle, wow.good luck there

It can be done, or you can get one at a salvage
& switch them

I only see that being done by the owner, way, way too
expensive to pay a shop

Random multiple misfire code. Cat gets glowing red hot. Sluggish lack of power/acceleration

Combining the hot cat converter and the missfire code, I would lean toward a fuel problem. Too lean or pressure too low.
If it was an ignition problem the cat would usually not be hot.
If the exhaust was stopped up, you would not usually get the multiple missfire issue. Just lack of power.
It could be a leaking EGR or other vac problem, and a dirty fuel filter too.

Can cat. Converter cause 97 chevy cavalier to overheat?

Yes.
The cat could restrict the exhaust flow and cause the engine to run hot.
You would also notice a reduction in power and the check engine light would probably be on.

`my 97 cavalier is blowing white smoke from exhaust and i hear a valve tap as well... what can i do to fix this

it sounds like you blew the head gasket on your engine. i STRONGLY recomend that you get it changed as soon as posible before your engine completely blows or ceases up.

I have 97 cavalier not sure if i had gotten bad gas think so drove over 500 miles no problem went to different little gas station 40 min later driving started to have problems wanted to stall when trying...

use a tank of high test 93 octane, had the same type of problem with my 97 cavalier 2.2 ltr motor. If I would shut the car off for a few minutes and then restart it, it would drive normal again for a while. This would typically happen on hot days especially if you are sitting in traffic. A fillup with 93 octane gas for some reason would seen to solve the problems for a few weeks even after filling up with normal low octane 87 gas after the high octane fillup. I found no reason for this behavior and I am a mechanic all I know is that the car hasn't done this for me in some time and no repairs had been done, just one of those weird things cars do once in a while. mine has 277,000 miles and still running

'97 chevy cavalier won't start

Since there are no carburetor the fuel injection nozzles have holes which are about the size of a human hair, its imperative that these nozzles are cleaned properly and that can be done by a trained technician of any service center.............sodeep

Only way it would work is to do the 01 conversion by switching the whole doghouse (fenders, hood, bumper, lights, etc.) It can be done though.

What is the average cost for labor and parts to fix the exhaust?

It depends on the area your in as to how much labor and parts are being charged.
here in waco tx. a factory installed exhaust would be around 600 - 800 dollars,a aftermarket exhaust would be about half that.

After that you may still need to relearn the key switch.I will look at the wiring diagrams and get back to you on the starter circut in side the vehicle. You may have to change some other things.Talk to ya soon. Dan
