2000 ford explorer 5r55E stuck in second gear and all gear positions

Explorer is in second gear regardless of gerar shifter position.Goes forward even if its in park,neutral, reverse, drive, its doesnt matter which position it still drives forward in second gear.

It sounds like the linkages have let go. If this is the case, then drive it to a repairer straight away. If you turn the vehicle off you might not get it started again.

If Drive Selector switch is properly aligned then a shift silonoid might be the problem.

You'll need to get under the truck on the side of the trans (driver side) there will be an adjustment, looesen it move leveler all the way to park and tien nut.

DIsconnext and reconnect the linkage at the transmission. You may want top replace the linkage cable all together. Make sure you set the parking break and block the tires

My guess is the cable needs adjustment on the shifter.. seems to have slipped maybe a loosened hold down bolt..these have to be precise, good luck!!!

My 97 Ford Explorer will go in reverse but will not engage in drive or any other gears

1997 was the second generation Explorer

5.0 -4.9lt V8 or German 4.0 V6

No AWD until 2002

The V8 had a 4R70W
The V6 had a 5R55E

4 & 5 speeds --No 3 Spd

Think your Transmission is due fro a rebuild

I have a 2000 Ford Explorer automatic and my gear shift is not moving to the correct position on the dash board. The truck has goes into all the gears but the shifter isn't showing correctly.

There is an adjustment for that under the instrument cluster. its usually a black knob with a string on it. you may have to take a panel down to find it. When you do, I would put it in neutral and adjust it so its on the N, then move it through the gears and see if it matches up, if not, just adjust it unitl it does.

Transmission hesitates going into reverse only!

Solenoid Pack in the transmission is going out of it. I have put two in mine...both under warranty in my 2000 Explorer
