4l69e must start in first to get going but no fourth

Had tranny rebuilt by shade tree mechanic that came well recommended. When I got the car back I had to start in first or second to get going, so I had both selenoids replaced but now have to start in first and there is no fourth, which I am suspecting did not work when I first got the car back

Taking that it is an automatic you should not be able to start it an anything other than neutral or park
That is switches and nothing to do with the transmission so get that sorted first
now if you put it in first ( drive) and it doesn't move , that indicates that the torque converter clutch servo/solenoid is not working ( wiring , connections , TCM or solenoid
with no 4th or OD it is the servo/ solenoid , VSS, or TCM problems
So what can you check
wiring and harness connections
run the fault codes as that may give an indication of the faults
take it to a professional auto shop for a proper diagnosis and quote

SOURCE: Oldsmobile Alero EGR valve bad

yes you can do it yourself the egr valve is located on the exaust manifold closest to the fire wall unfortunately it has to be replace. it has an electronic lead to it and is vaccum operated to replace it is not a difficult task. the part can be purchased at a Napa or Oreilly's for alot less than at a dealership. just make sure your gasket surfaces are clean for replacement of new gaskets. if you have a code reader than can reset the code that is a benefit however if you do not you have to have a scan tool to reset the code. please rate the solution....thanks

SOURCE: On my 1997 Oldsmobile "eighty eight" 3800 engine

You can replace it easily, $74.99 2yr replacement. Just unhook the battery. the egr is a plug in play. once you hook it up, that's all needs to be done.

What is trouble code PO740 and PO700 on a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan? Can I shade tree mechanic fix it and how?

basic mechanic knowledge will not get this fixed. go to a tranny shop let them know what the codes are they will be able to fix it faster and correctly without further problems.
tip

Speed sensor issue.

I have A 1995 Bronco XLT that had A problem with harsh shifts and seemed to be running in "limp mode". I have had other trucks and cars with these symptoms and the fix was A new speed sensor.
The bronco had no speed sensor on the tranny like my F-150 (also A 1995) although there was one listed for it at the auto parts store. After many days of messing with this heap I bit the bullet and took it to A transmission shop where they tried rewiring the dash. After spending $350.00 it worked for about 6 months when the symptoms returned. The original tranny shop wanted nothing to do with this boat so I took it to A Ford dealer and found out that the speed sensor is built into the instrument cluster which must be removed and replaced with A rebuilt or A new unit.
A new one was in excess of $1000.00 while rebuilding mine was around $600.00. I opted to rebuild my unit. The total for this came to almost $1500.00 to remove and replace the rebuilt cluster. But at least it now runs right.
Another better idea from Ford! Instead of an external, tranny mounted speed sensor that costs around 35 bucks, and can be replaced by the average shade tree mechanic, lets bury it in the dash and charge more than the truck is worth to repair it! And they wonder why the foreign auto makers are eating there lunch.

I have a 91 f250 4x4 e40D transmission. Had it rebuild, then slip it in. It shifts 1 to 2 ok. But not shifting to 3rd & fourth

Being a 91, take it back. But this really depends on who you had build it. Shade tree guy, your probably going to eat it. Garage, take it back and make them fix it.

Can a shade tree mechanic change spark plugs in a 2006 buick lacrosse 3.8

Of course you can, you may need a few tools such as a spark plug socket with a flex attached and a few extensions 3/8 drive but other then that it would be just like any other car. Take your time doing one at a time and wha-la you are done.
First grab the back of the boot and twist a little left and right to break the natural adhersion between the plug and wire then slide the heat shield back and pull off wire, change plug and reinstall with dilectic grease

2001 audi a6 problems

My first instinct is to tell you those symptoms are BIG in nature and spell DOOM.. however if you are a glass half full person and dont mind trying a few things.. you have options.. IF YOU CAN turn a wrench and think.. you can get it DONE, : )

yes... are you mechanical? you can start by changing the tranny filter and fluids ( twice).. once drive it 1500 miles on the first cycle at most and new filter and fluid again... ( I did a ton of reading to get to this.. I no longer use the audo tranny fluid at 24 bucks a quart.) I now use the MOBILE ONE ATF synthetic (equivalent to the audo expected quality) 7 bucks a quart. I am on the second vehicle to take it and in both cases i didnt like how the tranny shifted and when two fluid cycles and new filters were passed through each.. I am happy with the results and still driving my 2001 A6 4.2.. Happy Happy happy.

FYI.. if you are not a fixer.. and you have to take it in.. "THEY" will not have interest in the games we play in the shade of the summer mechanic trees.. lol You will be expected to pay for a rebuilt tranny and labor. sorry.

Although.. its likely by the time your tranny starts slipping and we humans notice it.. its likely damaged.

I have read some people having a pressure regulator solenoid that is not getting electrical connection and the code makes then think its a solenoid failure.. ( consider cleaning the transmission wire connections and wiggle some wires down there.) if you have a code that points to that... then do the wiggling etc.

TAKE NOTE:
alternate story line.. There is a chance the symptoms you are describing at related to the car going into LIMP mode.. if so find what the engine error codes mean and fix / reset those first.

2002 chevy trailblazer LS has just had transmission replaced now service engine soon light is on cruise control stopped working ac pulls engine idle down when car stops at intersection and tranny not...

your going to ave to get under the SUV, look for the connectors going to the transmission, sounds like one of them is not pushed in all the way, or insted of pullling off the connector the correct way the yanked it by the wires, if you have an "Auto Zone" near by you can stop by there and they can read the codes for you for free, if you need to read the BCM codes you can rent the tool for free, or sometimes they will let you take it in front of the store to use it from 30sec or so. will at least point you in a direction.

4.0 automatic 4wd wontshifrt from 2nd to 3rd

Unfortunately this is not a job for someone that has to ask this question! Automatic transmissions are not something a shade tree mechanic should attempt to rebuild!

So your choices are to replace the automatic transmission with a rebuilt or new one or to take it to a transmission shop to have them work on it. I highly do NOT recommend the chain transmission shops like Amco, because they have a habit of telling client they need a complete rebuild when they really only need the belts tightened. Talk to friends and relatives and get recommendations on your local transmission shops and call the Better Business Bureau to check out the recommendations.

When pushing down the pedal, the gears and pto is grinding more and more as time goes by. I adjusted the clutch pedal , but no help. Can this problem be fixed by a shade tree mechanic or do I need to take...

I am not a diesel mechanic, a tractor mechanic, or a shade tree mechanic. But, it sounds to me like it is time for a new clutch pack. Anyone with reasonable knowledge of simple mechanics can do this job at a much cheaper price than a professional diesel or tractor mechanic, but it can be a heavy duty job. I would weigh the differences in downtime of my equipment and the ability of my shade tree mechanic.
