Can't adjust 2004 Ford Expedition headlight

Depending on the model, recent or latest model has built in
adjuster for headlight. Otherwise, if your car don't have, then
you have to open the front hood and locate one or two screw
bolts besides each headlight. If you only see one (1) then
that can adjust up and down only focus. If two (2) screw
bolts, one screw bolt can adjust up and down (vertical) focus
and the other screw bolt can adjust left or right (horizontal)
focus.

There are usually some adjustment/aligning bolts on the back of the headlight. You will have to park your car perpendicularly to a wall about 25 feet away from the car. Then you will adjust and align the bolts on the back. You will have to open the hood as the alignment bolts are on the back of the headlight which is accessible from the engine compartment side. There are usually 3 alignment bolts per headlight. You may have to chalk up a pattern on the wall when you do this. Determine the type of headlights you have on your car. You can only adjust composite headlights if they bolt to adjuster plates. For dual headlights, look on the headlights for four adjustment screws per side. Sealed beam units have interior adjustment screws under the hood.

4 Locate your adjustment screws. On sealed beam units, you may need to remove the trim screws and pull the trim off to reveal the Torx screws.

5 Begin with you headlights turned on to the low beam. Use a Torx screwdriver for sealed beam units and Phillips screwdrivers for other types of headlights.

You will need to know the height and width adjustment first from a manual like a haynes manual from your local autozone store $20.00. Then it will tell you how to put some tape and measurements on the garage door or fence ect... so you can aim them.

Headlight adjustment motor on the inside of the car there will be a switch to adjust the headlights.

Check the switch first before going any further, could be a poor connection to the back of the switch or power surge.

It could be the motors for adjustment, but its highly unlikely both would go at once, check all the wiring to the back of the headlights aswell.

Go to the bottom of the shifter linkage loose the bolts holding the linkage put it in park manually by hand then adjust the nuts tightening the nuts please make sure car is in park before you tighten the nuts that should do it.

Remove the brake caliper bolts{2} and caliper.
soak the rotor around the hub with penetrant oil and knock off with large hammer, careful not to hit the wheel studs. These rotors corrode and rust on really bad. If you can loosen the self adjuster behind the backing plate for the parking brake shoes, this will help as they hang up on them too.

For all descriptions, assume that you are standing BEHIND the light assembly.

On the back of the headlight assembly you will see the bulb cover (round cover with tabs) stamped "OPEN" and an arrow showing which direction to turn to remove. Look toward the 8 o'clock position for driver lamp, 4 o'clock for passenger lamp of this cap. Partially obscured by the sheet metal you will see a black screw 3/4 exposed on the headlight assembly. It is at the edge of the sheet metal and very difficult to see, but it,s there. You may need to remove the assembly to get a better look. If needed, see below for lamp assembly removal.

How to remove the headlight: There are two 10mm bolts holding the assembly in place. One is above the headlight and the other one is between the headlight and the high beam light. Unplug the two harnesses that hook into the headlight, if needed, and it is ready to be removed the car. Gently work it out of position.

Take a Phillips screwdriver and turn the black screw - it adjusts the light vertically. Turn it counter-clockwise to make the light go up and clockwise to adjust down. Its as easy once you find the screw.

Good Afternoon. I have a 2004 S60R & had to adjust the headlights recently. The adjustment is easy, but requires a small socket wrench. I forget the exact size of the adjustment bolt, but it's close to 1/4". It's located directly behind each headlight & is fairly easty to reach. Adjust the lights at night on a flat section of road (you'll need a flashlight to see the adjustment bolt when doing this). Hope this helps. David

Some are actually spring loaded and others just have a slot that allows for adjustment. Either one of those types should be visibly different.
If the belt is not used for cam timing, the adjustment may be done with one of the accessory items such as AC compressor, the alternator or the power steering pump. In this case, the adjustable device will have one pivot bolt and another that goes through a slotted area to allow the device to 'swing' for adjustment.
The pivot bolt should be only a little loose so one can just barely move the adjustable device, while the adjustment bolt should be free while adjusting.  This may help not losing the adjustment after having set the belt tension correctly.
