2004 Infiniti FX35 Logo
Posted on Dec 28, 2008

My son started messing around with the headunit on the Infiniti FX35 2004 in order to get it connected to boombox and accidentally pulled all the wires from the headunit connector (M58). They tried re-inserting them back but had a short circuit. After that I have with the help of my car mechanic re-installed all the wires and connecte everything back (hopefully correclty). After all that the radio is not turning on. The fuses were replaced. The wiring color doesn't match with the schematics that we have from ALLDATA or any other sources from the internet or mechanic shop. How can I check the correctness of the wiring and also fix the issues with the radio if it is still alive. When we were working on the re-wiring of the radio and had a short on the thin wire that connects from the radio to the face (control panel) the CD plaer started shoffeling disks so I am assuming the radio is still alive but it is a possible the amp is dead since it is not powering up. Or maybe the wires are wrong. Any help would be greately apprecciated. Kids, Kids, Kids! Small kids = small problemms, big kids = BIG PROBLEMMS!

Even though the CDs are shuffling, the radio is probably shot. Since you make mention that all of the wires are pulled out, I'm going to assume that you meant it was out of the molex connector (the little plastic thing the wires fit into, and plugs into and holds the wires into the radio). Unless you want to shell out a lot of money taking this to the dealer, you may want to try and trace the wires to their sources with a digital ohmmeter and compare them to what is supposed to be arranged in the molex connector. Then I would replace the amp and radio was these are dead.
Another option would be to run an aftermarket radio and wires to the speakers and find the power wires to the radio. This is the most "butchered" option, but might be the easiest.
I would forget the boombox. Car steroes are more than loud enough as it is and all this power puts wear and tear on the electrical system and can even damage components such as the alternator. Body integrity can even be compromised and cause rattles and leaks due to the sound pressure. I'm all for music, but this opens up more trouble than you or your son could ever imagine.

The shift lever on my son's 96 grand marquis snapped inside the steering column when he tried to shift into reverse. Is this an easy fix?

New shift lever. It would require removing the steering wheel. Only reason I say that is if it has an airbag in the wheel, best not to mess with anything in case that thing pops open. Even accidentally touching the wrong wire would cause it to open, I've seen it happen. Remove steering wheel, then remove the 2 plastic pieces protecting all the controls, from there is just removal of the old shifter(there's the shift cable attached to it, as well as the main part that allows it to move around the column). Maybe an hours work for an average or at home mechanic.

have you been messing around in the dash at all? usally this happens when a vacume line in the dash to the vent control system gets disconnected typically its behind the radio and happens during aftermarket headunit installations

G35 Infiniti trunk doesn't open. Dealer says wire harness is broken and wants $340 to fix. Where do I pull open the gray lining to find the wires? I will just splice them but don't want to make a big

the round, grey fasteners are push in retainers. just insert a flat tool under them and pry up. only remove the ones needed to access the wiring. use a continuity tester to determine which wires are broken.

Radio & CD play fine. Just no display on radio. Dashlights work

Not a whole lot you can do with the headunit, repair wise. Most of the older discrete components have disappeared in favor of surface mount and integrated chips. They hardly silkscreen part numbers on the plastic chips and most of the "working" bits are heavily potted over - real tough to dig that epoxy out of there.

Still, might a worth a shot of just open it up and poke around a bit. Make sure you pull power before you remove/install the headunit. I've seen a number of installs where they accidentally shorted something out by pulling/installing audio equipment. All it takes is to pinch the right wire to ruin your day. I
t will prob be easier/faster to get a new head unit.
You might be able to find a used OE radio on-line, but its prob a good time to upgrade

Doors won't close

Stick a screw driver in where it would normally wrap around striker at door, pull handle and it should flip open there to allow closing. When working properly, it should snap back on its own when handle pulled so I'd give it lots of lube to see if it will start working properly.

Infiniti FX35 Audio is not turning on.

haha. boys will be boys, right? can you give me the model and serial numbers on the radio unit? they should be stamped somewhere on it, so i can try to find some info on it.
first thing is to find the main power wires. does any of the wires match the schematics description of the ignition input, battery power input or negative/ground? the battery power is usually red, orange. the ignition input is usually yellow or pink. and the ground is usually brown or black. these wires are usually solid colors and should be thicker than the others.
are you able to tell where the inputs for these are on the unit?
do you know if the radio is tied into the security system?

Infiniti M35 - change headlight Bulb

Take the wheel off the side with the burnt out bulb. Next pull the 6 plastic rivets out of the front fender well shield. Take the screw out of the shield above the 3 rivets along the inside of the fender edge, Pull the shield back starting at the top where it's tucked under the back portion of the liner shield. Unscrew the top plastic cover, twist the connector counter clockwise and pull it off the bulb. Then unclip the bulb and pull the bulb out noting the groove position for reinstalling the new bulb in the housing. There is nothing simple about your bulb change. The dealer price of the bulb is around $245.00. Don't break the new bulb trying to guess when it's seated properly!
