My chevy optra won't go into gear. The gear shift says you are in Drive but the car acts as if it is in park

It just puts a line over the drive symbol on the dash board

Most likely the shifter cable broke or became disconnected. Have someone shift the car (engine off, parking brake on) while someone else watches the transmisssion linkage to see if it moves. If it does move there is an internal transmission problem if it doesn't it is just a problem with the cable.

Sounds like your linkage from your gearshift lever to your transmission is out of sync.

My 2004 chevy optra won't shift out of park. The

I recently changed the 10 amp fuse inside the car, 4th fuse down from the far left, lablled cluster in manual and when I took it out I couldn't shift out of Park! When I put in a new one it was ok again!

Trasmission seems stuck in park

Did you chk. to see if you got an ajustment on cable, wear it hooks to trans. or maybe cable came out of bracket that holds it.
