Are you using the seatbelts?
The airbag light is on because there is a problem with the system.
PLEASE do not try to fix the airbag problem yourself.
You could accidently activate the bag and get hurt.

The air bag light has come on to alert you to a system problem. Do not try to service it yourself. If you try to disconnect the system and don't know what you are doing you will deploy the air bag which can hurt you depending on your position in the vehicles interior at the time. Do the correct thing and let your dealer perform diagnosis on the system. If you deploy the air bag it will be a ver costly item to replace. Usually in excess of $1800.00 just to purchase one.

look under the drivers seat there is a plug that may be unplugged or broken this is what tells the light to stay on plug it in or try unplugging it and see what happens, on some of the 200 and up models the seat belt light may have some affect on airbags working properly, I have not found this to be the case on 97 model.

It is possible something got bumped or unplugged. Look under the front seats to make sure everything is plugged in. The airbag connectors are colored yellow.
SOURCE: plenty of air but no heat
Check to see that the blend door linkage is hooked up. Doubtful it is heater core, as you had heat to one side and not the other. Check coolant control valve linkage, verify it is moving the coolant valve from off to on when you switch temperature from cold to hot. Verify you have coolant flow to the heater core by feeling the heater hoses where they enter the firewall. If all checks out well, then look at hvac controls individually.
