Where is the thermostat in a 2004 6cyl dodge caravan?

Van is over heating and then cools down on it's own think it's the thermostat. The water resovour is always low on water but it might be boiling out.

Nice design Dodge.. NOT! Looks like I'll have to drop motor to get to thermo. That's not going to happen! Any other ideas on how to loosen up sticky thermostat.

SOURCE: 2000 Dodge Caravan air conditioner problems

heating and cooling fans are generally one and the same. changing freon doesn't always fix the problem... did you have the system pressure checked for leaks first.

Second determine if the vents are opening properly (switching from heat to cooling) basically when you change to cool it closes air access to the heater core.

SOURCE: 2005 Dodge caravan is overheating, but there is no

Overheating can be caused through a lot of things But 1st on the heater pipe going into the cab ,through the firewall there is 2 heater pipes 1of them has a air valve on it so when you turn to hot the vacuum opens the valve and lets the hot water come through.or it could be under the dash on inside of firewall by heater inlet.BUT check your radiator for dust and dirt in the outer cores/Loose fan balt/water pump falty/Head gasket leaking/ plus others will all cause
the car to overheat .
So let me know how you get on Ron

SOURCE: Dodge 2002 Grand Caravan V6 3.3 engine overheating/no cabin heat.

Replace the bad radiator hose first.  Second- get you special formulated anti-freeze dye from the auto store and pour it into the radiator.  Third- make sure you got all the air pockets out of your system, cause the coolant system won't work with air pockets in it.  Fourth- Check for leaks by looking for the colored dye.  If it's not the radiator hose, then could possibly be a pin hole in your radiator.  Would suggest replacing all the radiator hoses at the same time while you got the coolant system disconnected, cause you don't want to have to come back and replace another hose in a few months.

I have a '03 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport AWD that the heater only blow hot air when going down the road. Van has a new radiator and new thermostat. Sometimes the blower will not kick on for a few

If the problem is a lack of air flow from the vents, and you suspect the blower motor is not running at times, you would need to test the blower relay and blower motor for power and ground when it is not working.

Why does the heater on my 2002 dodge grand caravan only work in the back of my van?

change thermostat, how fresh is your 50/50 coolant, 50% water is what gives you heat, with thermostat, are all heat controls in correct position ? any obstructions in vent hoses, has debris fallen into defroster vents etc., are rad hoses in good condition ? weak hoses collapse and prevent flow. good luck

What causes an engine to get hot

Yes a restricted converter can cause an engine to over heat because it can't breath correctly so it make the engine work harder . Cooling fans not working is one of the most common causes for 93 to 95 dodge caravans over heating . their is a cooling fan control mddule located on the inside of the frame rail next to the radiator on the drivers side of the van that goes bad very often . Thermostat sticking is another fault that can cause over heating

Error code 0172 on dodge caravan

Sure, have your system pressure checked. Worst case scenario, thermostat could be installed upside down or a bad head gasket. Also check for water in the oil or oil in the water. If you don't know how to do this ask at your local parts store.

My Dodge 2005 Ram overheats on hot days while running the AC. If I turn the heater on then it cools down. I need to know if this is a thermostat problem or if something else.

I see your post was a while ago. I hope this helps you or anyone ells having Dodge over heating issues.

I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 and a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. I also owned a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan. ALL of them had thermostat issues. When you replace the thermostat make certain you get the proper heat rating. If it is rated tool low, then the check engine light will trigger the code that the engine is not heating up fast enough. I also recommend going with a 'fail-safe' thermostat. These thermostats fail OPEN rather than closed. My 2002 RAM factory thermostat failed closed, built up pressure, then blew half the water out from under the radiator cap. This happened in less than 35k miles. The dealer replaced it. After a couple of years it failed again. Make sure you have 50/50 mix of anti freeze to water. This raises the boiling point of the water, makes it more efficient for cooling the engine, treats the water so it does not corrode and scale up the cooling system and helps keep the liquid from boiling off there by reducing the volume of fluid in the cooling system. Also, BOTH my 02 RAM and 05 caravan developed a leak in their radiators. They were slow leaks and I did not notice it until I did some standard checks and found the coolant was low, Most shops can run a pressure test for less than $40 to let you know if your radiator is leaking.

You should also make sure that your AC cooling fans is running. There are fuses and solenoids in the fuse box that can sometimes go out. When you AC is on this fans will turn on. If not, it could create a lot of extra heat.

I have a dodge grand caravan 2006 with trouble codes p0126 and p0406 what does that mean? and how can I fix it?

Hi, sorry I don't have a manual for your van but here is some general information for these codes.

P0126 Insufficient Coolant Temperature for Stable Operation:

basically, the engine is running cool. Check your thermostat to see if it's closing properly. If it is closed when removed, you may want to get a higher temp thermostat. The thermostat is usually in a housing bolted to the engine at the end of the upper radiator hose.

P0406 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor A Circuit High:

This indicates the EGR position sensor signal is out of range. The problem could be the wiring or the sensor itself. Check the wiring first. If it looks good, consider replacing the sensor. I think in your van the sensor may be integrated into the EGR valve itself.
