FYI TO R&R COMPRESSOR YOU MUST ELEVATE CAR REMOVE ALL BOLTS FROM BOTTOM THEN YOU MUST ALSO REMOVE THE OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT AND OIL FILTER TO DROP COMPRESSOR DOWN TO ACCESS S & D LINES, DRYER IS MOUNTED TO RF OF CONDENSOR BOLT ON BOTTOM BOLT ON TOP AND TWO SECURING IT TO CONDENSSOR, REPLACE TXV TAKES 10 MIN ON FIREWALL 3 TORX BOLTS FLUSH AND VAC 1 HR AND CHARGE PS MICHEAL SMITH UR A TOOL!!!!!!! How did you hook up the inline fuse to compressor and ground to compress ? Ground what ? Right at the clutch coil ? You have to be hooking it up wrong . The compressor can't cause the clutch coil to short or blow the fuse , even if the compressor were seized up . An before that would have the serpentine belt would burn up , squealing noise. applying B+ voltage in the relay socket ,pin 30 to pin 87 will engage the compressor clutch . If the fuse blows the wiring from the relay to the compressor clutch is shorted to ground . Look for rubbed through wiring harness .
what was replaced?? to fix your issue??need more info. I have 04 max my self and very common issue is the low side ac line leaking. you need to look at the front of the ac compressor if the whole thing is spinning with ac on. if the whole clutch is not turning and the pulley ONLY is, than the ac is not turning on and it could be several things. anything from low charge, to low side pressre switch issue, or major leak somewhere.
The ac pulley clutch is controlled by a coil behind the pulley and the clutch snaps together when the ac is turned on.. If the smell is coming from that area then there is a short in the coil and it will have to be replaced. If the compressor shaft can still be turned by hand then there will be no need to replace the compressor or go into the gas system as it can be done from the front of the compressor in car
Hi Pearce, Take the vehicle and have the pressures checked. Sounds as if it may be leaking and has lost pressure. The system has valves which allow operation only if the system has the correct pressure. Regards John
When replacing the compressor the dryer should also be replaced, you put 2oz of oil in compressor and stand compressor on pulley for 5 min, then after install turn clutch 10 turns to pump most oil out of compressor, the dryer should have 2 oz of oil also, if you are flushing the ac system out with a solvent then more oil is needed for the system, if your just replacing the compressor then 2oz in compressor.
