2003 vibe will not start

Picked up a used 2003 Vibe. Engine will crank over with no problem, just never starts. Previous owner told me it just stopped one day at the store, never started again. Have done the following: New plugs Fresh gas, verified pump operation. Tested all coils for spark, good. Cylinder compression ~180psi on all 4 cyls. Tried a spare PCM Replaced cam position sensor (had previously set P0340 code) Checked and rechecked crank position sensor and cam sensor. Checked timing chain and timing, perfect. Checked all grounds and battery/alt output. On prolonged cranking, there is a slight stumble, but never fires up. About ready to take it to the scrap yard.

It has good spark then? Have you pulled a plug or two after prolonged cranking to see if plugs are wet with gas? You said pump was working, have you checked the fuel pressure? Nothing in your comment about the injectors-that's why I asked if plugs were wet.

Check the fuse for injectors, verify that power is available at all injectors with key in ON. You can check the injector circuit with a "noid light" available at any parts store-different sizes, so get the one that fits your injector connector. Just plug the light in and crank the engine over. If circuit is good, the light will blink. If it doesn't blink or if it lights up and stays lit-the circuit is not right.

All of this is to see if injectors are pulsing and spraying fuel. Do the same with spraying starting fluid into the air intake and cranking motor. If engine now runs for a few seconds, then you know it was a fueling problem.

SOURCE: 04 Pontiac Vibe bad gas mileage without a code and then the p0420

that code is from having the plugs wires reversed as you did and the o2 senors regrsitered the overload on gas emmions once you remove the battery cables for about 5 minutes and then recconect and run the engine it should be okay

2003 vibe will not start

Do you know what Camshaft Actuator System is ?
The standard compression pressure is 1,400 kPa (203 psi).
The camshaft position (CMP) actuator system enables the powertrain control module (PCM) to change camshaft timing while the engine is running. The CMP actuator assembly (5) varies camshaft position in response to directional changes in oil pressure. The CMP actuator solenoid valve controls the oil pressure that is applied to advance or retard the camshaft. Modifying camshaft timing under changing engine demand provides better balance between the following performance concerns:
• Engine power output
• Fuel economy
• Lower tailpipe emissions
The CMP actuator solenoid valve (3) is controlled by the PCM. The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor (4) and the CMP sensor (1) are used to monitor changes in camshaft position. The PCM uses information from the following sensors in order to calculate the desired camshaft position:
• The engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor
• The mass air flow (MAF) sensor
• The throttle position (TP) sensor
• The vehicle speed sensor (VSS)

This mite be something to look at , Is cam timing advanced or retarded . The ) CMP Actuator Assembly !

On extremely cold mornings my Vibe engine will chug while I'm stopped. Once the engine warms up the chugging goes away. It's not the O2 sensor as this has already been replaced. Check engine code P0171 It...

you need to have the Engine Coolant Temperature switch checked, since the computer relies solely on sensors, the ect tells the computer how cold or hot it is so the computer will make it a rich or lean mixture to start the engine,if it tells the computer that it is 75 degrees the computer will lean the mixture like starting a car in the winter without a choke.

2003 Vibe long slow crank before starting

This sounds like a weak battery, poor conections to battery or a weak or worn out starter, clean battery terminals first , wear safety glasses, then charge up the battery, have the battery checked at an auto parts store.
