The temperature light came on also but my temp gauge was going down not up
Rather than take any chances the temp gage cost $10.00 at the parts store, and is relitively easy to replace. If you have not changed the fluid lately, I would do this as well. I just recently did this in my garage with a 10mm box wrench and ratchet using a flashlight to help see. The 6mm bolts may be a little tough to get at,but it is doable. I replaced the thermostate and fluid for around $20.00. Also, if it is a DOHC look on the drivers side on the head, you should see a temp sensor, if you replace that as well, you will have taken care of all the possible heat related parts on the vehicle. MAke sure to partially drain the system if you want to check the sensor, as fluid will run out if you dont. I also think that there is a resistance reading which you can check to see if the sensor is good, butunfortanuately I do not recall what the ohm reisitance is that can be read with an Ohm meter if you have one. Check out u-tube for additional information as well, they may have a hands on video to follow and explain. Good luck, I have 220000 mi on my car, running strong
