check these things thermostat, water pump, Main engine fan, Aux fan, strip fuse for Aux fan, Aux fan relay behind fuses in screwed down cover. Fuel pumps make alot of noise on these might want to check/replace check valve after them.
Also a tune up of coil, cap, rotor plugs and wires is always a good start.

With the extreme heat we are having it could well be the ignition module in the distributor overheating and kicking out until it cools back down. Have you checked for spark when it does this ?

Part and labour sound about right. As to the carpet you will have coolant in the mat and under the mat as it will most likely have soaked through. You will probably have a coolant smell in the car especially on hot days with the windows wound up. You may be able to pull lit and have it cleaned professionally but I think that a new carpet would be cheaper in the long run

As with any no start issue, you will need to figure out if you are dealing with a no spark or no fuel problem, or both.
You need to know if the plugs are getting spark and the injectors are getting fuel pressure and pulse from the computer.

you burned it down lol ..do a compression check first sounds like it got hot like hot hot ... warped head when they get that hot sesors burn also . just saying . back to the begining what really made it get hot just saying most people put fluid back in but you still got the first problem ????

Fuel pump relay

check fuel psi at fuel rail with fuel tester, if u think its a fuel problem.
prob a spark prob. check spark with spark tester.

98 Buick Regal -engine quits

ok its one of two things you need to check when it cuts off if you have spark or fuel if you lose fuel pressure replace pump it gets hot and makes noise like its running but its not pumping fuel and if you lose spark you need to replace ignition control module has a hair line crack in it and when gets hot the crack expands and loses contact and wala no spark

I had the same problem, took to a benz dealer, it was the fuel pump relay, cost for repair $200.

its either the ignition coil or the distributor...when they get hot they shut down....when it happens check for spark at the coil...if you have spark replace the distributor
