I had a couple in intermittant issue with may jeep. The first where the ****** seemed to slip then reengadge. Or it feels like its in between 2 gears trying to determine what gear it should be in. I checked the fluid levels - good- The ****** was replace a year ago by a repuable shop. Any other shifting is tight and works correctly. At one time the RPM's went to 0. then returned to normal. After that, the jeep ran and shifted normaly. Last weekend while it was raining. The Jeep shut off a few time within a 30 min period then returned to normal. Oh the Fuel guage went to E then after a while returned to the coorect level. All other guages were normal at that time. It started back up after each stall. . Its been running fine since. But I don't believe in miricles and I know this will return. I plan on changing the Crank sensor and I will like to reseat and clean connectors on the ECU. The Jeep has 180K and its been pretty reliable.
3 problems and no engine stated.
oldest story ever on gas engines.
1: for the transmission question, check levels and scan it yet?
2; in the rain. questions, ever get tuneup this decade
no engine stated.
if the crank sensor, has 1 bolt do not play with it ask how to do it and not wreck the new one. ok? as seen on 4.0L engines.
fuel gauge can be bad fuel gauge sender.
stalls 101: (1 top cause of 50)
if you scan it ,at the stalls it will tell you why it stalled. most times.
ever try new spark plugs.>?(and filters)
4.0L or 4.7L engine? gas. which one.
4.0 has a spark coil RAIL, making owners fear spark plug changes.
(bad to the bone that) and the coil pack can be just dirty
and when it rains it conducts HV electrons and shorts. until dryer.
same here but different.
the 4.7L has 8 coil packs, COPS, any can fail, boots fail
and sure bad spark plugs, no spark plug made last the life of an engine, so is called a TUNEUP part.
or SCHEDULED SERVICE POINTS (prevention)
if 4Liter engine the inline 6
this red spacer must be used on all news CKP sensors
or the next startup wrecks the new sensor
seen on this forum 1000s times, and now car as dead spark
sad to watch.
the paper and glue spacer is 0.030" think, 30 thou !
(took lost of work to learn how think, got it from maker)
most schlock stores sell it lacking this key #6 part.... adding to the pain.

I am going to assume that it will not run even if you push on the accelerator pedal?
Can you install or attach an old timing light to the spark plug wires, turn it one and try to start it. The light should flash with the engine running, but if it shuts off at time of engine die, and the engine is still spinning, you are losing spark, My suggestion is the cranks shaft sensor on bell housing.
Second, install a pressure gage on the test port on the fuel rail and watch it as you start the engine, fuel pressure should not drop as the engine dies, if it does, the pump is not working correctly. There are two modes of power to that pump, one to start and timed, for only a few seconds to prime the system, and one to run continuously. Find the wires going to the pump at the tank. Connect test light to those wires and watch what happens during crank and at stall, You should not have the pump shut off and the engine dies.
If you have spark, and fuel pump working, when did you last change the filter,,but I put that LAST.
It has to be one or the other of these.
Good Luck

change fule filter if nothing changes do fule pressure test
This will be challenging to find ... If headlights dim or flicker too ... check battery terminals first. But I think it will be a large harness with quite a few wires on it ... Check ... for loose bulkhead connectors at the firewall ... and between the Engine and the body/firewall .... at the ECU .... you may also check for loose harness connectors at the fuse box. check for loose or corroded fuses ... especially if a cover is missing.
If I remember correctly this truck has 3 fuse panels in it. Check the manual

The problem is AutoZone. Stay away from that place. I once worked there and was amazed by the number of returns. They sell low quality parts, most of them rebuilt and listed as new.
The best of the low end parts dealers would be KOI, NAPA, and Carquest. All others blow chunks. Else, just go to the dealer.
