Replace thermostat 2005 Saturn Relay

This may be difficult for what i am assuming is a front wheel drive vehicle with a 6 cylinder engine. There is probably not a lot of space to work.

1. Let engine cool down. (no need to worry about bumping into something that may be very hot)
2. Remove belt from alternator by loosening the tensioner pulley.
3. Unhook any wires or plugs connected to the alternator.
4. Unscrew any bolts and remove alternator.
5. Replace alternator with the new one and put bolts back on.
6. Reconnect any plugs or wires that were disconnected to the right place.
7. Loosen tensoioner pulley and replace belt.

This will be harder than it seems on these directions. Difficulty depends on location of the alternator, space to work in the engine compartment, how easily the bolts come out, and of course experience. Good luck.

Some you have to remove the tire and go through the fenderwell.....You have to remove the screws and the plastic pop-out rivets and the inner shield can be removed.
This is how most are replaced...All chrysler vehicles are starting to put them there also....It looks impossible on some because you cant even barely see the battery....However this is how it is done.
Do not remove the power block....It should tell you the same in the owners manual.
The plastic rivets are difficult to remove without damaging them....They make a special tool to remove these but If you dont have one you can use a small flat screwdriver and a pair of long needlenosed plyers...You have to pull out the center of the rivet and the the other part of the rivet will come out.....Some have solid rivets...If this one has the other design you should not have to remove the power box .Some are over and some are under.The battery should have a clamp to hold it in place...Once you remove the hold down clamp the battery should slide out of the way of the fuse block box.Check the owners manual for safety....Hope this helps............Metalpoet.........

Removal Procedure
1. Rotate the drive belt tensioner counterclockwise to release the spring tension. See picture below.
2. Remove the drive belt.

Installation Procedure
1. Install the drive belt to all of the pulleys except the generator pulley. See picture below.
2. Rotate the drive belt tensioner counterclockwise to release the spring tension. See picture below.
3. Install the drive belt over the generator pulley.

Ensure that the drive belt is properly routed.
