and car may have 5 or more harness for 5 or more very complex radio head end options new,so only the real service manual covers all that for sure,or if lucky 2nd fiddle here.

Sound test/click test each speaker with a flashlight battery at the radio end of the harness. Hold the ground of battery on metal frame or ground wire and touch the speaker wire to the hot post of the battery. If speaker doesn't click click/static, speaker is bad or harness not connected to speaker. If each passes the test and clicks, your speaker control on the radio isn't working. Being a stereo installer you should know this, or possibly forgot to do so. I've neglected to do the same for the "hurry" mode had kicked in.

The Toyota Corolla has been around long enough that many owners find themselves needing to replace the factory stereo. Installing a new stereo in the Toyota Corolla gives improved sound and updated features. Swapping out the stereo in the Toyota Corolla takes basic tools and less than an hour. This article covers models from 1990 to 2000.

Open the hood and remove the negative battery cable from the terminal. Apply the parking brake and place the car in "D."

> Remove the trim from around the stereo by prying with your fingers at one corner. Some early models have two screws at the top of the trim piece to remove first. Allow the trim to hang on the drivers side of the dash if it's connected to the cigarette lighter.

> Locate and remove the four screws holding the stereo in place. Pull the radio out of the dash and disconnect the wires from the back of the head unit.

To install

> Connect the wiring harness adaptor to the original harness and let it hang from the dash. Slide the new stereo into the Toyota radio mounting kit, which is a thin metal cover and secure it per the manufacturer's instructions. Most adaptors have screws to hold the stereo in place, however some have clips, which engage automatically.
>Plug the wiring harness adaptor and antenna wire into the back of the new head unit and push the entire assembly into the dash. Reconnect the negative battery cable and turn the radio on.

> Ensure all of the stereo controls and speakers are working. Secure the radio in the dash with the original four screws and replace the trim.

what you need is to buy a wiring adapter for your car.it only cost about 15 bucks and plugs right in to your original plugs that were connected to your factory radio.the great thing about this adapter is that you dont hava to cut your original plug off just in case if you ever want to reinstall your original back.also the wires that go to your new headunit are color coded to match the exact colors that you connect to your stereo.you can't mess your connection up because all you have to do is connect each wire to the right color,tape them up,connect your stereo and you have music with all of your speakers working like they should and without any headaches.i hope this info helps.take care and good luck, manny

I would get a stereo installation kit for your car from Auto Zone or a local car audio store. It will have the surround for the new stereo to fit where the old one was and a harness that you can wire the new stereo to and the harness will have a plug to match the stock radio plug.

there are 2 phillips head screws right above the the cassette holder or that little compartment right over the ash tray that have to be removed.after you take those 2 screws out,you will have to pull off all of the heater control/a/c buttons off then pry off the the plastic frame that covers the radio because it is held on with clips.if its a little hard,u can try and pry it off with a flat head screwdriver,but not too hard cause you can damage the dash pad by doing it too hard.after you get the cover off,there will be 4 more screws holding the radio in place.you can either use an 8mm socket or a phillips head screwdriver to remove these 4 screws.if you are planning to install an aftermarket stereo in your corolla,you can use the same brackets from your original radio to install it perfectly and tightly.everything should fall right in place.to avoid any wire cutting,buy a universal stereo plug which runs about 15 or 20 bucks but its well worth it and if you ever want to reinstall your original stereo back,all you have to do is unplug and plug.no wire cutting at all.hope this info helps.take care and good luck, manny

There is no remote wire on these newer trucks....03 and up....u have to buy the harness....although i didnt....i have an 03 gmc sierra and just pulled the schematic and matched the wires. And there is no programming to do on an aftermarket stereo.....I work for GMC and we cant program aftermarket stereos......if u buy the right harness ...and its over $100 then everything should work just fine.....and this does not disarm ur alarm system either....mine still works fine....hope this helps

if he had an aftermarket stereo in the vehical then he had to cut the origional harness out of the way. the only solution for this would be to replace with another aftermarket stereo. I know this becaus ei had a ***** of a time trying to install my aftermarket.
