SOURCE: location of the evaporative cannister solenoid? 2003 saturn vue

Depends if the engine is 3.0 or a 2.2?
3.0 purge is on the top, back side of the intake. Black, cylinder. Looks the same on a 2.2, but is located next to the air filter.

SOURCE: P0449 Evaporative Emission Control System Vent

While looking for the location of the vent/solenoid for you, I came across a blog that said this error can be caused by a loose or faulty gas cap. You may want to look at that first and possibly solving the problem. Replace the cap, get autoparts store to reset the code and see what happens.

That is laymans terms. That is why it is in your manual. You ,need to get up to speed ,on todays somewhat high tech vehicles.
Now you need to go to a shop that does EVAP testing, with a smoke machine,if necessary,or at least put a scanner on it ,and replace the vent valve solenoid,if bad.(again laymans part teminology,

SOURCE: code po449 States "Evaporative emission control

Check engine P codes. GM uses an EVAP solenoid that is located under most vehicles near the gas tank and connects to the charcoal filter can. Codes can be set and will drive you crazy trying to figure out if you have a bad gas cap, broke lines---this is where they try to get you to do a smoke test, or you just think the vehicle is no good.

Relax, it is usually an easy fix and one GM has known about for years but continues to make easy money off people who cannot do basic maintenance. Now one code that comes up is usually P0449, along with maybe a warning to check the gas cap to see if it is on tight. Chevrolet will gladly read this code out for you for around $98.00 and then fix it for another around $100.00 which includes the EVAP part which if you buy at their parts dept. will cost you $32.00 and my dealership parts man told me they sell one a day! It is easy money for them and obviously a defective part they keep using for the last 10 or 15 years but hey, its money in their pocket. Here is how to fix it with ONE single common screwdriver!

Get under the vehicle after putting on the parking brake and if you a little hefty, then removing the spare tire on the some vehicles will give you lots more room. The EVAP solenoid is easy to spot near the gas tank and it has one electric connector which disconnects by releasing the plastic clip and pulling the connector out. It also has ONE air line connected which goes to the charcoal cannister which also can be removed with the one screwdriver. The whole EVAP solenoid and air can can be removed with the screwdriver which makes it easier to unpolug the electric and air line. Get a replacement from the dealer as they certainly are familar with this part as they sell LOTS of them. Then just go under and plug the new one in and the problem is solved. Now if you do not have a tool to reset the codes, try the local parts places as most of them will do a reset for you. If you do not have someone to do it, it can be done simply be removing the RED, positive lead off the battery and wait a minute and then plug it back in. The codes are reset but of course now you have to reset the radio and clock stuff.

Hope helps (remember to rate this answer).

2001 Buick LeSabre 3.8 V6 Code P0449 , what needs Replaced?? Car will Not Start. Stalls and Dies. Supposed Fix: Vapor Canister Vent Solenoid; Exact Location & Replacement Procedure??

Malfunction The evaporative control (EVAP) system captures any raw fuel evaporating from the fuel storage system (e.g. the fuel tank, filler neck, and fuel cap). Under precise operating conditions-dictated by engine temperature, speed, and load-the EVAP system stores and purges these captured fuel vapors back into the combustion process. The carbon canister, which stores the raw fuel vapors, utilizes a vent valve that allows fresh air to enter the EVAP system. This displaces the fuel vapor as it's purged into the combustion process. Code P0449 indicates that the evaporative control (EVAP) system vent valve solenoid is malfunctioning. This can be caused by either too little or too much electrical resistance or a mechanical problem with the vent valve itself. P0449 Symptoms
  • Check Engine Light will illuminate
  • In most cases, there are no adverse conditions noticed by the driver
  • In some cases, there may be a noticeable fuel odor caused by the release of fuel vapors
Common Problems That Trigger the P0449 Code
  • Missing fuel cap
  • Defective Evaporative Vent Valve
  • Defective or damaged fuel cap
  • Distorted, damaged or cracked Fuel Tank Filler Neck
  • Torn or punctured Evaporative system hose(s)
  • Defective Fuel Tank Sending Unit gasket or seal
  • Split or damaged Carbon Canister
  • Defective or damaged fuel tank
Common Misdiagnoses
  • Fuel cap
  • Evaporative Purge Valve
  • Evaporative Vent Valve
Polluting Gases Expelled
  • HCs (Hydrocarbons): Unburned droplets of raw fuel that smell, affect breathing, and contribute to smog

I am sending you a little info on your problem.. Hope it helps.. Best of Luck..

2006 Chevrolet Colorado LT 2.8L, Vin 8, Eng Cfg L4 Customer Concern: Current Powertrain Control Module (PCM) code P0449. Tests/Procedures: 1. Inspect the evaporative vent solenoid, near the fuel tank and evaporative canister. Look for wire damage, corrosion.

2. Check voltage to the solenoid on the Orange wire. It should be battery voltage, backprobing. If not, check the voltage level on the CAN VENT fuse, #69 in the Underhood Bussed Electrical Center (UBEC).

3. Cycle the evaporative vent solenoid with a scan tool. The solenoid should click.

4. Backprobe the White wire, pin 22 of the blue PCM connector. The voltage on this wire should be battery voltage with the solenoid off and close to 0 volts with the solenoid on. Potential Causes: Evaporative Vent Solenoid
Solenoid Wiring
Tech Tips: The evaporative vent solenoid is attached to the side of the evaporative canister above the spare tire.

This error relates too

The PCM has determined that a malfunction exists in the electrical circuit for the vent valve/solenoid in the evaporative emission control system.

Definition:
EVAP (Evaporative Emission System) purge/vent solenoid circuit condition

Explanation:
The solenoids and system wiring are monitored for opens or shorts

Probable Causes
1- Purge or vent solenoids defective.
2- Check connector and wiring.
3- Fuel saturated vapor canister.
