In the windshield wiper area on both sides of the car you will see a rubber plug about 1 inch in diameter. Use a flatblade screw driver (about 8-10 inches) and poke this plug out of its hole into the engine compartment (you can recover it later.) Insert your screwdriver through the hole until you find the release latch. Just push it until it releases.

SOURCE: 2001 chevy malibu hood won't open hatch stuck?

a trick to try and get it to open is to (this sounds bad i'm aware) smack the hood of your car where it would latch (center at edge near bumper)...if for whatever reason it has slipped it can cause the part that hooks to be applying too much pressure preventing it from loosening. may or may not work...would be better if you have another person to pull while you smack smack on the hood so as it goes down, hopefully it frees it up enough for the person pulling it to unlatch it the rest of the way.

SOURCE: emergency break cable broke on 2004 silverado

I had the same problem on my 2003. Open the driver door all the way. Get on your knees just outside the door. Follow the plastic tub that holds the parking brake release cable inside the truck. Start from the release lever and follow to the end of the tube. There will be a metal lever that the cable was attached to before it broke. You have to pull that lever with your hand to release the parking brake. Very Important!!!...Hold the parking brake activation pedal with your other hand when you release the brake. Let the pedal out slowly when you pull the metal release lever. The pedal will come back very fast and you could injure yourself if you are not careful. Good luck!

SOURCE: No hood release cable Chevy S10 truck

I have this same problem. You have to take a screw-driver (philips) and look between the hood and the grill and you will see the hood latch assembly. There will be a large gauge wire with a loop about the size of a large philips head screw-driver. This is the release. Take the screw-driver and push the wire towards the drivers side door and it will release.

Testimonial: "THanks, solution concise and tells me where to look and how to do it. Because I was looking to taking off my grill and not sure how to do that."

2008 Hyundia accent my inside hood release broke. How can I get the hood opened

Hi,
It's probably a cable-operated release,
so take a pair of pliers & have a look at the hood-release to see if you can see the head of the cable.
Put the pliers around the thin inner cable & try to pull the cable into the cab.
This should release the hood.

The other option is to jack-up the car to get under it.
(WORK SAFELY & support the vehicle on blocks or stands when it's raised)
Get under the car & look for the hood cable. Grab it with your hand & pull on it, to try to release the catch that way.

Best of luck

How to adjust hood cable for 1999 ford ranger?

The hood cable is not adjustable, you must have a defective cable or the latch is sticking under the hood.

My hood will not pop up when i pull release the cable. I can't get the hood open. Any ideas?

If it feels like the cable is attached when you pull the hood release try having someone push down on the front of the hood near the latch. Once the release is pulled out have the person relieve pressure from the hood once you let go of the release. This works for most stuck hood situations. If that doesn't work try having some one pull up on the hood while the release is pulled. This works when the spring has weakened. Once the hood is opened clean and lubricate the latch assembly to prevent further trouble.

How to open a broken hood latch on 2000 ford explorer

if it is broken from inside the cab, skin the cable housing until you get to the cable and grab it with pliers or vice grips and pull the release. If it is broken from the latch under the hood you are going to need to get to the latch and release it with something, anything that you can get in there and pull the release latch.

Pulled latch, but hood won't open on 97 dodge ram van

If you pull out on hood release & it feels like some resistance cable is not broken. Have someone pull release & hold pulled outward while you hit the front of the hood near grill, with palms of your hands. If it releases upward, release 2nd catch. Raise hood & locate plastic or rubber hood stops. There is one on each side of hood screwed into radiator core support. Raise each one an even full turn. This will allow it to release properly.

My hood relaease will not open the hood. the cable seems to be disconnected or broken.

IF YOU LOOK WHERE THE PULL HANDLE IS YOU WILL FIND A BLACK OUTER CABLE WITH A WIRE INNER, THAT BLACK BIT MAY HAVE COME OUT OF HOLDER . IF THE INNER IF STILL ATTACHED TO THE HOOD CATCH AND HANDLE, THEN HOLD THE OUTER AND WHEN PULLING THE HANDLE PULL THE OUTER AWAY FROM THE HANDLE THIS WILL RELEASE IF NOT BROKEN,

Broken hood release cable. How can I open the hood manually?

The cable is held in place by a metal bracket. If it cam off the bracket it won't work.

Look behind the part you pull and you will see the wire and the outer part of the cable. The end of the outer part of the cable has a groove neer the end. This groove slides onto a slot that is located just behind the pull latch. Once you see it it will make since on how it should go.

You can also grab the outer part of the cable and pull the inner wire. If you can pull the wire almost out, then it is broken. But the chances of that are very low.

Hood release on 95 S-10 inoperable

Have one person pull the hood release inside cab while the other person pushes down on front center of hood.  One might have to push down a few times before it releases.  This only works for stretched cable not broken cable.

2003 ranger.the hood will not open. i think cable is loose /broke

You will need 2 people to get the hood open. While you pull on the hood release cable have an assistant gently pound on the center of the hood until it pops up. If this does not work, inspect the hood release lever to see if the pivot broken, if so pull directly on the cable with a pair of locking pliers. After you get the hood open make sure to spray the latch with penetrating oil (WD40)
