I just replaced the battery because my car seemed to be shutting off on its own due to the positive terminal cable being loose. Now that is tight it still seems to shut off or not turn on at all after being turned off. the gas gauge dropped below e once it died and wants to come back up now but there is a small black bar from keeping it from going to full. tank is full it just wont go back to full. Also the car will turn itself off while driving as if the battery is dead. all started after i gave someone a jump.
The little black pin is to stop the needle going back dont think a jump start would cause that but if when you jump start and terminals are reversed polarity if could fry the battery cels
i realized that much, now how do i get it to go away so my gauge can let it read full. it wants to go back up but the bar is keeping it from doing so
guage needle needs lense removing then manualy lift needle over the littlepin then replace the lensekeeps cutting out main ignition fuse ie dash lights there is a main fuse near the battery should be yellow inside a black case with two otherfues's the yellow one keeps coming loose or is faulty this will cause ignition to open circuit turn off hope this helps

I really doubt if your motor siezed up while sitting there. But your battery could have gone dead, or your stater may have locked up, or a battery cable is loose or dirty.
SOURCE: 1996 Infiniti I30 turn key and barely turns over
The problem is almost certainly the starter and not the battery. Once a battery gets to the point that you turn the key and nothing, not even clicking takes place, it is highly unlikely that after a few minutes it will turn over. However, the corrosion is an indication that the battery will need to be replaced anyway. Normally, the starter in the beginning stages of complete failure will do exactly what you described, turn the key and nothing, no noise, no clicking, nothing. I have seen starters that will start the car after doing that if the vehicle sits for a little while. The starter will engage fewer and fewer times until it finally completely fails. Sometimes, when you turn the key and nothing happens, you can have someone tap on the starter with a bar or something with a little weight while you are attempting to start it and it may start. The starter on that car is on the drivers side of the engine, toward the front, down low. I would suggest taking your car to a AutoZone, or parts store, or even Wal-Mart and have the battery tested, as that regardless of the starter issue, you are going to need a battery. Another thing, Infiniti starters will make a wheezing sound for a second as the car is starting, so listen if you can get it started again and see if you hear that sound. Hope this helps you and good luck.

the car is sitting in the garage now and is fine. Its getting power and everything is fine. When i turn the acc. on the gauge wants to move back up but cant get over the bar that keeps the gauge from going straight down (6 0'clock) idk how it got there but it happened when the car died and reset itself
when i turn the acc. on this morning it makes a small high pitched buzzing sound
i found the solution. Take apart the cluster planel and open it up and manually spin the gauge back to where it needs to be then put it all back together. it shouldnt take too long it only took me about an hour or so
clean the pump and put it back and the buzzing should stop.
