There is a bar holding my gas gauge down

I just replaced the battery because my car seemed to be shutting off on its own due to the positive terminal cable being loose. Now that is tight it still seems to shut off or not turn on at all after being turned off. the gas gauge dropped below e once it died and wants to come back up now but there is a small black bar from keeping it from going to full. tank is full it just wont go back to full. Also the car will turn itself off while driving as if the battery is dead. all started after i gave someone a jump.

the car is sitting in the garage now and is fine. Its getting power and everything is fine. When i turn the acc. on the gauge wants to move back up but cant get over the bar that keeps the gauge from going straight down (6 0'clock) idk how it got there but it happened when the car died and reset itself

  • Anonymous Aug 13, 2012

when i turn the acc. on this morning it makes a small high pitched buzzing sound

  • Anonymous Aug 13, 2012

i found the solution. Take apart the cluster planel and open it up and manually spin the gauge back to where it needs to be then put it all back together. it shouldnt take too long it only took me about an hour or so

  • Anonymous Aug 13, 2012

clean the pump and put it back and the buzzing should stop.

I really doubt if your motor siezed up while sitting there. But your battery could have gone dead, or your stater may have locked up, or a battery cable is loose or dirty.

SOURCE: 1996 Infiniti I30 turn key and barely turns over

The problem is almost certainly the starter and not the battery. Once a battery gets to the point that you turn the key and nothing, not even clicking takes place, it is highly unlikely that after a few minutes it will turn over. However, the corrosion is an indication that the battery will need to be replaced anyway. Normally, the starter in the beginning stages of complete failure will do exactly what you described, turn the key and nothing, no noise, no clicking, nothing. I have seen starters that will start the car after doing that if the vehicle sits for a little while. The starter will engage fewer and fewer times until it finally completely fails. Sometimes, when you turn the key and nothing happens, you can have someone tap on the starter with a bar or something with a little weight while you are attempting to start it and it may start. The starter on that car is on the drivers side of the engine, toward the front, down low. I would suggest taking your car to a AutoZone, or parts store, or even Wal-Mart and have the battery tested, as that regardless of the starter issue, you are going to need a battery. Another thing, Infiniti starters will make a wheezing sound for a second as the car is starting, so listen if you can get it started again and see if you hear that sound. Hope this helps you and good luck.

How to remove a battery

Check your Owner's Manual for any special proceedures regarding antitheft features that need to be addressed before disconnecting the battery. Always make sure the keys are OUT OF THE CAR before you start. Anything obstructing your access to the battery must be removed. Always remove the negative terminal of the battery FIRST. There will be a "hold down" feature that securely holds the battery in place- either a strap or bar across the top of the battery, or a claw type clamp that kinda bites into side of the battery at the bottom. You have to remove "hold down". Old battery out, new battery in. Alway attach the negative terminal to the battery after the positive terminal. (Negative cable- off first, on last)

Jumped the battery and immediately the lights came on. However the car would still not start. The car was VERY low on gas so we added at least 2 gallons of gas to it. Car still wont start. It clicks when...

Load test the battery if possible, but more than likely the battery has become unable to hold a good enough charge to start the vehicle. I would also clean the pos. and neg. terminals of all corrosion and make sure they are tight.

How do I replace the battery on my 06 uplander

Yes, you need to unbolt the support bar that is covering the battery. After that is removed, then there is a battery hold down which keeps the battery from moving in the battery tray. Remove one of the bolts from the bar and losten the other so you can just move it out of the way without taking it off completely. Also, before doing anything, make sure to disconnect the neg battery terminal first and then the positive. When reinstalling a new battery, connect the new one as the last step starting with the positive terminal and then the neg.

Hope this is helpful

I need to replace the battery.

On GM vehicles there is a 13mm or 1/2" hex bolt down at the bottom of the side terminal battery.
Remove this bolt that holds the plastic 'hold down' bracket.

Use an 8mm or 5/16" hex wrench to undo the negative terminal first, then the positive terminal.

Pull out the old battery.

Installation is a reverse of the removal procedure.

A socket wrench set may be required to remove any cross bars for the engine compartment that may get in the way of removing the battery.

Good luck on this repair.

How to change the battery?

Loosen the bolt that holds the negative battery terminal and then positive battery terminal. Put the new one in and reverse order to put in.

  • Step 2 Twist and pull up on the end of the cable with your hand. If it does not come off easily you may want to purchase a battery terminal puller from your local auto parts store. This will help prevent damage to your battery or cables. It is not recommended to use a screwdriver as a pry-bar, this could break off your battery terminal or cause other damage.
  • Step 3 Detach the positive (red) battery cable from the battery using the same method.
  • Step 4 Using a combination wrench or a socket and ratchet, remove the battery hold-down clamp.
  • Step 5 Take the battery out of the battery tray. Batteries are heavy, so grab from the bottom using both hands. If the battery has a handle, use that instead.
  • Step 6 Use baking soda mixed with water and a wire brush to clean any corrosion from the battery tray and the hold-down clamp.
  • Step 7 Clean the battery cable connectors with a wire brush. To remove heavy corrosion from the connectors, use battery-cleaning solution (available at any auto-parts store).
  • Step 8 Place the new battery in the battery hold-down tray and secure the battery with the hold-down clamp. Spray both terminal ends with anti-corrosion solution (optional). Attach and tighten the positive battery cable. Attach and tighten the negative battery cable. Check that all cable connectors are tight. If you can move them at all, your car may not start.

    • When installing a battery, be careful to observe the correct polarity. Reversing the cables destroys the diodes. Proper polarity must also be observed when connecting a booster battery, positive to positive and negative to ground.

    2000 GMC SONOMA SLS

In some applications a check engine light is triggered by the odometer. Requires the dealer to reset. If no ODBII faults are present, the only sensors that are subject to physical wear are the TPS(throttle position sensor) and the 02 sensor(oxygen sensor). These 2 sensors are relatively cheap and should be replaced due to age(2000). To maintain optimum performance, I do 3 things, every 30,000 miles. 1) Change the Air Filter. 2) Replace Fuel Filter and 3) Add a can of B&G44K to a full tank of fuel. The B&G is the best on the market and will condition your fuel pump and injectors. It is available only through dealerships(11.00 a can at Toyota) and should not be substituted. These 3 things are your path to cheap performance and fuel economy
